AF Back .....

Hi all, so this morning I ran for a bus....

I’m now at A&E..... my heart flipped.... back in AF.

Totally gutted 😩

I see that you posted a month ago that were still in NSR and everyone congratulated you. Then further down in your post, you said that you had had a cardioversion. This is not the end of the world. When I had cardioversions they lasted one to three days. Having only one and lasting a year is impressive. Schedule for another. I know a few people who have a cardioversion every six months and/or in couple of years, you may have to undergo having an ablation. In a couple of years, ablations will be much more successful than they are currently. It's all good news.

Ooh, so sorry to hear this news. Have had the same thing happen to me in the past, such a little thing to trigger it back out of rhythm - but it does!! So disappointing, what's your heart rate now?

Well they tried Flecanaide..... it hasn’t worked. They’ve sent me home now.

Has it ever worked many hours later?

I have to see the cardiologist again now.... appt pending.... it’s like starting all over again.

Very depressing!

Sorry you've had this worry.

Yes, Flecainide can sometimes take a bit of time to work. Have they given you pills to take at home too? You know quite often AF will just stop of it's own accord without the aid of any drugs. I think we sometimes give them the credit for stopping an attack when it would have stopped anyway.

They said they called my cardiologist and he said not to give anymore drugs today.

They gave it 2 hours to work but said it might still work. My AF was always there before, never stopped. I don’t know what it feels like to just go.... hope I find out!!

Agree jeanjeannie50 in fact my cardiologist said similar, that most of the drugs they "try" in A& E will help keep you in normal rhythm but not convert you back. I suppose for some flecainide is the exception so sorry it didn't work for you LordGabriel

Well I have AFIB.... I know what it feels like from when I was first diagnosed... so I knew exactly what it was when it returned.

I don’t need a machine or device, I feel it.

My heart flutters and jumps about, very fast and doesn’t go away. Totally irregular beat. Headache, short of breath.

No.... I went from normal life, no warnings to AF.

May i ask how old you are. Sorry fit asking so many qs i got ectopics 5 yrs ago and 1st time like someone revved the engine on my heart felt like 100 beats in 5 secs wad terrifying noe ectpics run and ruin my life im scared of getting sonething worse or afib sorry i know you have it have heath anxiety doesn't help me

I don’t take magnesium.

I am 54. Was 53 when diagnosed in 2018.

I wouldn’t worry about something I don’t have? If you don’t have it, great!!

Perhaps you should speak with your doctor about the anxiety.... I don’t worry that much. I find it’s best to just get on with things.

I thought if a drug didn't work in the hospital they would try something else. Was Flec given via a drip? I had to stop Flec (50mg) as cardiologist said it was causing flutter. Do hope you are back in nsr soon. I know how it feels when af returns after ablation

No just in tablet form. I’m feeling a lot better now..... it might be settling down.

I’ve not had an ablation yet. Only a cardioversion.... it lasted 13 months, till this morning.

I’ve been stepping things up at the gym lately. Maybe I went too far.

That's pretty good going for a cardioversion, my best was 6 months.

Unfortunately they are only a sticking plaster.

Its all about managing af, im afraid sudden exertion is often a trigger for me, even running up stairs, that doesnt mean that you can exercise but you have to take at least 10 minutes to slowly increase the exertion not jump straight into it.

Miserable as hell yesterday but picking myself up today!

So pleased to hear that. You said you ran for the bus and AF started and I'm wondering if that may be a sign that going from slow to fast too quickly was the trigger. I guess the stress of wondering if you were going to make it to the bus in time didn't help either.

Do you do any form of exercise? Just wondering if that's what's needed so that your heart gets used to going a little faster, but then calming back to normal when you stop. Gentle exercise and then building up slowly, so that those calm down muscles in your heart get a little stronger in their working.

Hi JJ.... I was back at the gym .... doing an hour or so on the treadmill..... my cardiologist had agreed it.

I will hold off now till I see him again. Waiting for an appointment now.

I did run fast yesterday but not for long.
