Bit funny when stand up after sleep

When I get up in the morning (and it usually only happens at this time) my heart feels like it is beating funny for about 10 seconds. When it first happened I though I was having an af run but if I feel my pulse it is in rythym. However, it is a slower beat to my normal..then after about 10 seconds my normal rate kicks back in. The cardiac nurse thought they may be etopics but the pulse rate feeling doesn't seem to drop enough as i expect it would if i was missing every 2nd beat. Of course when i had a 48 hour monitor on recently it didnt happen! Anyone else have any experience with this kind of thing?

When getting out of bed you need to do it slowly. First make sure that you're completely wide awake. Sit on the edge of the bed for a few minutes and be aware of your breathing (sometimes we breathe too shallow), then get up slowly. I think it's that your body is not able to respond as quickly to the demands you put on it (i.e. going from being flat in bed to standing up), that happens as we age. Yes, I know you don't want to do this and it may make you feel old, but just see if it helps.

Good luck.

Agree with Jean - slowly, slowly getting up may be the answer.

Jean is spot on. Hambro unsure of your a male. If you are and of certain age nightime trips to the loo become a normal feature.

Before getting up. Stretch your legs, wiggle your feet, anything to wake your heart gently and increase slowly your pulse rate. Sit on the bed for a minute and slowly get up and start moving.

Better than shocking your heart into working mode.

Yup, we are all getting old, some much faster than others. Your heart is a muscle, you either keep it fit and don't ask it to lug too much lard around or you suffer the consequences. Your choice?
