I was on flecainide 50 mg 2x a day for 2 months. I had chest pain, dizziness, irregular heartbeats , feeling completely exhausted, anxiety, and crying. My new cardiologist said to just stop cold turkey because he felt this medicine was not appropriate for my problem. I feel that may cause more problems and I should taper if for a few days. He said it wouldn’t hurt to taper but didn’t give instruction how. Has anyone tapered flecainide at a low dose?

Getting off flecainide
Have been on flecanide for 3 years. Following the blanking period for an ablation in September I’ve been off it cold turkey for 3 days and not noticed a difference. If your tapering I would just go with whatever you are comfortable with. I’m not sure It will have a negative impact either way.
When I was told to stop taking daily Flecainide, my doctor said that unlike betablockers, it was unnecessary to wean myself off them so I didn’t and there were no problems.
My flec was reduced with no other intervention to replace it and I was on100 twice a day. I did 75 am and 100 at night for 2 weeks then 50 am and 100 at night for a month!! (episodes occur at night). Then did tbe same at night. Am still on 50 twice a day
I was advised by my cardiologist to stop the Flec & use as pip I just stopped it - no problems. He said it was the cause of the irregular/ectopic beats.
Has anyone tapered flecainide at a low dose?
When I first started Flecainide over four years ago at 50mg x 2 it made me nauseous so the Cardiologist recommended I take 25mg x 2 ( use a pill splitter ) for two weeks then gradually increase to 1 x 50mg + 1 x 25mg a day for another few weeks before resuming the original dose. This worked perfectly and I have no side effects now.
Since you are stopping Flecainide totally I would just stop and not bother tapering.
