My main hobby, after running obviously, is going on holiday. Any tips for travel I insurance companies that will insure people like us. I've just had af and cv but am awaiting appointment at Papworth. Are there any recommendations for companies that 1. Will even insure us, 2 won't rip us off too badly?

Thank you

Main problem will be that few companies will cover you if waiting for tests or treatment etc. Others who travel abroad may well arrive soon with recommendations . Every day is holiday for me.

Slower that I would have hoped thanks. I suspect anno domini at work. Next EP appointment 25th Nov when hope to get results of Holter 48 hours . Still a few short runs of something but not long enough to record which is why I'm interested in what the holter shows. I seem to remember taking six months last time anyway so quite relaxed about it.

Check the "fine print" for 2 critical items. You will get coverage but it usually excludes any condition that has been treated in the last 6 months or longer.

You should also check on when coverage stops. It is usually only for the length of your trip which you put down on the application. If your illness and foreign treatment go beyond that date because you couldn't return home you may loose coverage past your declared trip period. I was told if you call them you can pay for an extension by 1 insurer. You may also give a later return date but same trip cost. I am not a travel insurance expert that has just been from my questioning the provider.

We have used flexicover All Clear and this year got an annual insurance with Stay Sure. Flexicover paid up when OH ended up in private hosp in Canaries but we were lucky as they wanted him moved to public hosp without 24 hour translators. Stay Sure would not cover in June as OH rereferred to cardio and no diagnosis. Appt next week!

Also worth checking who the underwriters are of the policy you choose as all the above are brokers.

Most seem Europe based.

I think we are sticking to UK for the forseeable future but do bear in mind insurance still a good idea as transfers home by ambulance are not always provided free.

Transfers by ambulance in the UK are not FREE! Flipping heck. Probably still cheaper than a train ticket though (joking 😅😅, I think!)

Have a look on the top right of the home page - there is a heading Pinned Posts. Click on See all >> and there is a heading on travel insurance, lots of useful information listed.

Worldwideinsure has taken me in but because I’ve had ablation.....in an expat too....they seem the onky I’ve I could find for expats......

I used one called Holiday Extras, think I got them from a Martin Lewis comparison site (?)

Price was not too bad, but Like BobD says, if you are under investigation for anything then they are unlikely to cover you.

Had to fill in a medical screening declaration to say as much. They also look at how many visits to A+E you have had in the last 12 months.

Thank goodness for the EHIC card (for now)

I have a lot of medical problems and always insure with Explorer - they seem good and are not expensive.

I have permanent AF and Moderate HF. I managed to get an annual policy with Staysure in January at a cost of just under £500. I went to Madeira for 10 days to stay with some friends in their timeshare apartment as I have done now for several years, I started with a chest infection which sent my heart markers soaring. The first doctor I was put in touch with worked for a private company and after several days of prescribed medication, I was getting worse so she sent me for an ECG, chest X-ray and bloods. She cane back later that same day with the results and recommended that I was admitted to the clinic where she is based. I had been in touch with Staysure to alert them to all this and had been given the run around speaking to people based in various parts of the world, not all of whom were easy to communicate with. The medical company took me to the clinic and just as we arrived, Staysure rang again to say they would not pay the clinic fees and I must go to the public hospital. We had heard stories about the hospital being full with patients in corridors because it was January. It would have meant starting all over again with another round of tests and I might not have been allocated a bed at the end of that. The clinic was also full so I would probably lose my bed there and then what? When I told Staysure this, I was told “it does happen”. I stayed put and was there for 5 days on oxygen much of the time. Staysure rang nearly every day to tell me to move to the public hospital and use my EHIC as they weren’t going to pay. In the meantime, I had missed my flight home. They rebooked it for me later, flew a nurse out from the UK to accompany me home and laid on ambulances to get me to Funchal airport and then home from Manchester. Fortunately, my friends were still in their apartment so I was able to be discharged to them otherwise I would have needed accommodation until I was declared fit to fly and a new flight arranged. Unfortunately, the day before I left, I discovered a rash which turned out to be shingles from which I am still trying to recover and which I feel was at least partly caused by the stress of the above. I eventually put my claim into Staysure once I was well enough and they paid up without a quibble. To be fair to them, it does say you have to use your EHIC where it is accepted but it makes me wonder what we are then paying such high premiums for when they know where you are going. I had also had an experience the previous year when I was carted off to hospital following a fall. I tried to use my EHIC and it was refused. I was insured with Saga on that occasion and when I told them, they said it was happening more and more in some countries that the card was being refused. Good luck with finding a good company and let us know!
