It’s been a long wait for my referral at Glenfield but only 4 more weeks to go. I took on the advise from others about seeking a private consultation to then go back into the NHS but even that route was a struggle to get any response.
Looking forward to getting answers on what my irregular rhythm is and what could be causing it.
Symptoms haven’t got any better since being prescribed Atenolol, still have very little energy, having episodes that I feel I’m going to faint and just generally feeling rubbish.
To lift my mood a bit and my birthday soon, I’ve been brought the latest Apple Watch and the ECG function is a nice addition 😊

Interpreting ECG’s is highly specialised and many GP’s will refer to a Cardiologist so needless to say, with one or two notable exceptions, us poor mortals have got no chance. That said, whilst your pulse is clearly irregular, at least it is well within the normal range as far as rate is concerned. That may well be due to the Atenolol but it is better than having your heart banging away at 100+ beats per minute. Hopefully things will become clearer after your appointment and you should ask for an Echocardiogram as this will help determine the overall condition of your heart but be careful because if done privately, it will be expensive. If you are hoping to see the same Cardiologist on the NHS, it’s worth asking if one can be done then. If you are in persistent AF, then they may suggest a cardioversion as the next phase of your treatment plan and if that is successful then other treatment options may be available to you but it can be a long process. At least you are on the starting blocks which has to be good news......let us know how you get on but it would be a good idea to familiarise yourself with all the useful information which is available on the AF Association webpages......
I would not like to state with any cirtainty but I'm sure I can see good p waves all the way through your trace which may well indicate that it isn't AF. Best wait for your cardiology appointment for a clear answer.
Your GP could have ordered an echocardiogram, but with only four weeks to go, you’ll be having one from your cardiologist, I’d expect. The Apple Watch ECG traces aren’t wonderful, I find.
I saw Dr Sandilands at the Spire and Glenfield from May. Are you seeing him? You’ll be sorted soon, though, so try to stay positive. Life can be no fun, that’s for sure.
