Hi everyone, does anyone else take Gabapentin tablets for pain who suffer with Atrial Fibrilation?
AF and Gabapentin tablets: Hi everyone... - Atrial Fibrillati...
AF and Gabapentin tablets
I was prescribed it because of my spasticity. I have no pain and am not depressed, both are indicated in the instructions.
I was on a diet but could not understand why I had put on 7lbs. Then a delayed letter from the Neurologist to my GP indicated that Gabapentin can cause weight gain. Google confirmed this with patients indicating 2st weight gains. Further, it is apparently hard to come off it.
Anyway I stopped taking it without difficulty. It didn't appear to affect my AF at all. I know a lady who takes it, post heart surgery, without problems.
I did but it did not suit me so I went back on amitrytiline
I take a 50 mg pregabalin at night which is a similar drug for pain. No effect on af. But weight gain is a side effect. So I keep my dose low. Does help with pain.
I am on carbamazapine for the nerve pain... so far helps with pain and AF o.k. losing not gaining weight.
I take gabapentin for FM, but doesn't seem to affect my AF. I had to (suddenly) stop taking it a few days before my ablation and I was extremely ill as I had to stop them abruptly and not wean off them slowly. OK again when I restarted them after ablation.
I am on it because of shingles never affected my af or heart failure.
Hi!
My story is similar to the others I have seen here. I have had persistent AF for a few years now and have had a pacemaker, for that reason, for the last four. At the same time, I have had an unhealing ulcer on the scar tissue from an older fracture on my right ankle for over 5 years. The neuropathic pain from this was, at one time, almost unbearable and I was suffering endless sleepless nights because of it. One of the pain relief medications that was prescribed to me was Gabbapentin. It did absolutely nothing for the pain but neither did it in any way affect the AF. In the last few months, I have been taking Pregabalin, which has miraculously almost stopped the pain but has had no discernible effect on the AF. I have noticed a slight tendency to weight gain but I battle non-stop to keep this under control. I am naturally tall for a woman (almost 5'10") and have always been on the slim side, so that has not been, so far, difficult to manage.
I am due to see my cardiologist tomorrow, so maybe he will have something else to say. One waits with bated breath but, in the meantime, and to address the original question, I never had a problem with Gabbapentin except it never did the job for which it was intended!
I refuse to take any of those hideous pills. They can have horrible effects, but, I know they work for some. It is difficult!!!!!!! When one is limited to paracetamol!
Yes, I take Gabapentin and this time round feel that I'm doing a lot better than the previous time. First time I had weight gain, heart burn, and loss of memory but did notice I felt better overall pain-wise. Anyway, after stopping them for three weeks, I did start taking them and happily got very little side effects but very good results. I'm still taking them after seven weeks, 6x300mgs daily and honestly am feeling well. I take much more medication to gabapentin as I'm Arthritic but must admit, now, these tablets do help me greatly.......
Good Morning, I’ve been really busy with a party for my daughter so only just catching up. Have woken up with horrendous neck pain. Which is why I take the Gabapentin. Doctor upped my tabs to 300 just at night. So do you think I should see him and ask if I can up them more? I know it is because I have worked hard with this party doing the food and her cake. But I would like not to be in pain for it. Glad you feel much better. I get loss of memory and struggle with my weight anyway.
YesI do, I have no problem with my other medication
