Exercise and Cardioversion

I’m due to have a cardioversion on 14th October for AF and SVT and wondered how soon afterwards I can resume my twice weekly visits to the gym. I’m keen to keep going but don’t want to push my luck.

Thanks

I would say 4 or 5 days after you'll be fine to go to the gym. Maybe take the first few visits a bit steady but you'll be working out like Arnold Scwarzenegger again in no time. Check with the medics when you have your CV.

Thanks for that. I’ll give myself a bit of a rest .

Good Morning Spinningjenny.

Post CV the cardio nurse advised that I should wait two weeks before going back to the gym, she also advised that I should keep my heart rate below 130 bpm once I returned to exercise.

I purchased a Polar H10 chest strap and uploaded the Polar Beat App to my iPhone so that I could monitor my heart rate during exercise and as it approached 130bpm I throttled back.

Six weeks later I had my follow up appointment with the EP and he lifted the heart rate restriction. I still wear the H10 in the gym as it keeps me aware of what my heart is doing.

That's my situation, but as is often stated on the forum we are all assembled differently and we all have different associated conditions; what applies to me may not apply to you. So all you can do is ask your cardio nurse/EP and listen to your body.

Good Luck.

Thanks for your reply. I have a Polar wrist monitor but may well get the chest strap too once my heart is in sinus. Waiting time round here a a bit long, my six weeks follow up may well be after Christmas but I’ll see how things go.

Hi Again Jenny,

I would 100% go for the chest strap, it will be far more accurate and responsive particularly when training.

Good luck with CV.
