Just when they think its all over.....

So to recap flutter last year fixed with ablation a year ago tomorrow. That triggered fibrillation which was fixed with catheter cardioversion. All has been great until the last month, no medication etc. Then out of the blue three episodes of fibrillation all at about 12.30 to 1.00 am. Fixed each time with 200 mg Flecainide as pill in the pocket. My consultant says its not uncommon for the fibrillation to trigger when the body goes into the automatic (?) phase of sleeping. So we are trying a nighttime 100 mg of Flecainide each evening.

I really thought I had made the “Great Escape” but seems I got caught when the German officer wished me a good journey in English. My cardiologist explained that some people have a trigger they will never discover, I just can’t understand why I had 11 months without any problem at all. No more being smug I say!

It's not uncommon for some of the burn points to heal and allow errant signals to trigger afib again. You will need a redo. It is another ablation to burn the healed areas.

Sorry to hear that! From what I’ve read here it’s not uncommon for people to need two or more ablutions before one sticks. Here’s hoping you get some relief!

Love your “German Officer” take on Afib : ) I was feeling smug for ages after a successful cardioversion 5 years ago. I had a few breakthrough episodes lasting from 20 hours up to 5 days but always self reverting until the end of June when I got one that didn’t....

I’ve just had another cardioversion last Monday and hope I get a get as good a run out of this one.

Normal triggers don’t (touch wood) seem to catch me but colds and flu always bring on a few days of afib just as I’m getting over them and unusual exertion sometimes does, I had been painting a ceiling and reaching/ stretching all day this time. Walking up a very steep hill has done it in the past...

I’m hoping to be put on a list for ablation as when in afib I find it very disabling with a lot of chest pain. I hope you get a touch up second go and it keeps you out of the “officers” clutches in future : )

Have you been tested for sleep apnea? well known to go hand in hand with AF

As mikee says sleep apnea, one of the biggest instigators of AF, I'd get it checked.

There is nothing to suggest sleep apnea and my wife was a respiratory nurse, but will review that as an option. Also been weeing loads at night even for a man of my age and turns out that has strong link with A Fib too. Well I never!

I had been living peacefully in Argentina for ten years when Mossad found me. You have AF you expect this one day but always hope. Onward and upwards.

People with AF are usually low in magnesium (We tend not to get enough of it in our modern diets). Magnesium is also good for sleep, so taking some (not oxide) in the evening for several months could be helpful.

Daily magnesium for some time now originally as a recommendation for when I started getting migraines a few years ago. Only slight problem according to Dr Sanjay is the absorption can be affected by daily Lansoprazole for acid reflux.

That said just had four days blatting around the Welsh Mountains on my Harley in stunning sunshine and the world is good save for the fact I barely had more than one beer or one glass of wine in the evening. Tomorrow is the first anniversary of the original ablation for the Flutter so can’t really complain when I realise what a devastating effect this condition has on so many people....
