My sister has been on Xaralto for a number of years as she has factory five and is prone to clots. Over the past 6 weeks she has had two episodes of what she though were urinary tract infections, severe pain when trying to pass urine also a considerable amount of blood. The first time she immediately took Keflex and was ok the last time she took a specimen to the dr who has told her there is no infection and may be caused by the Xaralto. She is seeing a kidney specialist next week but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I have been on Elequis for 3 years and so far so good.

Xaralto
Hi. Best to get it checked out. While taking Xarelto I experienced a gastric bleed not sure if the medication caused it or just exacerbated a bleed that might otherwise have healed. I changed to Edoxaban which seems to be better for me. Worth having blood tests to check for a low blood count caused by unexpected bleeding (that’s how mine was discovered). If in doubt I would come off the Xarelto as quite a few of us have problems with it and ask to be changed to one of the other NOACS like Apixaban which I think carries a lower risk of bleeding. Hope this helps. Liz
Hello Jennywren2953,
I have the same symptom - blood in the urine, It began around 3 weeks after I started taking 20 mg of Rivaroxaban daily. Happens just occasionally though - mostly after exercising. My cause was found to be a kidney stone that was moving around scraping the inside of the kidney. The stone is otherwise painless and I do not have any other issues with it other than the occasional blood in urine. Never had blood in the urine before starting on Rivaroxaban (Xarelto).
