Hi Rdiehl,
By now, I hope you are feeling better. Hopefully the champagne will be out of your system. For some of us, alcohol is poison. I never drank but have read plenty of stories. Everyone is different. You will soon learn what to avoid. I can drink coffee every day with no effects but many others can’t.
Hang in there. Make sure your quality of life is good by avoiding triggers. Feel better soon 😊
Rule of thumb if you do drink - for every glass of champagne - drink a glass of water. Just drink more water - then an electrolyte drink. Hydration, hydration, hydration.
And focussing on slow breathing helps the anxiety. Panic and stress will increase your symptoms so using body hacks to keep calm is really important.
Unfortunately most champagnes contain sulphites (E220), which is a preservative and a well known trigger for AF. Most alcoholic drinks contain it too, but you can buy sulphite free wines, but you have to remember that they won't keep for long (even unopened).
Our advice on this forum is to avoid consuming anything containing artificial additives.
Sorry, this will not be what you want to hear.
Jean
Hi Jean- Can you tell me a little more about sulphites? I suspect them as well. I have gotten to the point that I can’t handle the sulfur in eggs- comes back up violently!
I am not a doctor and that sounds like who you should be asking this question, there are so many variables. In another answer it has been pointed out that stress can make things worse. More than that stress can actually cause this. It sounds as though you are having paroxysmal runs of a fast heart beat, that is a short period, this makes the case for stress related "flutter" more sound. Try not to be alone too long, get out and about and enjoy yourself. I was becoming isolated and have suffered a long list of diagnoses. Nowadays I feel a lot better, this happened when I joined singing groups and walking groups, I don't have time to worry now and everything seems improved.
Dehydration causes many symptoms, physical and mental, hydration is the key.
