Ha anyone been treated with these?, have been told they can have pretty bad side effects, back in AF mode after a cardiogram and have been advised these before having another.

I had amiodarone for 3 months after an unsuccessful first ablation. The amiodarone was good at suppressing my arrhythmia. I wasn’t aware of any side effects and I was assured that the risks are low if used for short periods with appropriate monitoring. I was given the option of remaining on amiodarone for life but I was very uncomfortable with this idea and opted for a pace and ablate.

If you type amiodarone in the Search HealthUnlocked box at the top right of this page it will throw up loads of posts relating to it.

I took amiodarone for two shortish periods and it damaged my thyroid and I'll now have to take tablets to right that for life. So you can guess how I feel about it!

As a Doctor once told me Amiodarone does not have side effects It has effects. It should ideally not be used for long term treatment but often used fo three months or so to assist cardioversion which is I guess what you meant to say. Cardiograam , or echo cardiogram is taking ultra sound pictures of your heart.

They kept me on Amiodarone for two and a half years, and was still in A F, and Thyroid was damaged still trying to get it back to normal, and still on tablets,

After an emergency admission I was converted with IV amiodarone and sent home on a maintenance dose. Six months later the cardiologist was about to change me to bisoprolol, when I got an EP appointment. The EP thought I should stay on them before my ablation, They were stopped three months after the ablation. So about nine months in all. No side effects at all although I was careful to cover up in the sun.

I was on it for 8 months after 2 failed cardioversions until 3 months post successful ablation. I had no side effects so long as I kept out of the sun. For me it was worth it. My EP would not have let me

stay on it longer. I also had monitoring. Good luck.

yes, never again

Lots of precautions when taking Amiodarone, sun can effect skin, also veins are made weak. Take alternatives if possible, I did thank goodness, it’s a less expensive medication as well as being a problem to some. So ask for a alternative if you can.

I was discharged from hospital on them when my AF was diagnosed. They caused hair loss and I was taken off them after three months.
