Low carb diet

Heading off next week (yes I know I have only been back from New Zealand three weeks) for a trip to the Bavarian Alps on the Harley with a mate of mine. Thought I would strip off a few of the New Zealand lbs and make space for a few bratwurst and small beers. So I have been doing low carb for the past few days. Noticed this morning my pulse rate was mid to high 70’s. Normally you could set your watch by my 60 bpm . Have an infection in my finger and wondered if that was what caused it. Perfectly steady and fine just fast for me. Googled it and in the course of doing so came across a paper about the link between AFib and low carb diet.

One de-caf coffee later, a couple of small home made flap jacks and back to a spot on 60 bpm.

I am more and more convinced about the connection between digestion, the heart and also gut bacteria. No more low carb, just going to have to have smaller portions!

Love it and love Germany - so beautiful with the pretty towns!

And big mountains to ride my Harley round. Also going to Austria Holland Belgium and Luxembourg. Will have my trusty Kardia and my emergency Flecainide with me but hopefully after two 24 hour flights and three weeks upside down they will be redundant.

Fingers crossed. Have a great time and hopefully your medication will be redundant. 👏👏

Love Garmisch! Enjoy!

Only talking about Garmisch on Saturday with a biker mate I went out for lunch with. We have both skied there but not ridden our Harleys there in the summer, so its now a plan.

Hi Slim

I agree, there is a link between AF and the gut bacteria. Haven't tried low carb diet as such. I do take probiotics which seem to help keep attacks at bay but not totally.

Any particular high carbs you avoid?

Try and have a look at Mittenwald/.Seefeld an the German/Austrian border. If you are into ski lifts there are some great trips to be made and fantastic walking around the area. There is massive Peace Bell nearby which is rung every day to commemorate the end of a major European war.

It was erected at the place where 3 borders met, at that time,.. but the borders moved on after the next war.

We are doing the “romantic route” already on the sat nav. We are staying in a couple of castles. I had massive moments of doubt but all went well and as my Doctor Daughter said to me (who is out doing three months in NZ) you couldn’t get two better countries to be ill in, if there’s a problem.

I mean Australia and New Zealand but I suspect Germany and Austria would be pretty ace too.

Yes I think so too.....the romantisvh strasse was a lovely route. I’d never heard of it, but clearly when we did it it seemed very popular....have a great time, it’s so clean in those countries.....
