I THINK I AM VERY LUCKY WITH THE NHS WE HAVE INT HE UK. BUT WILL HAVE TO TAKE THIS MEDICATION FOR LIFE. COULD BE WORSE. GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR INR CHECKS EVERY 6 WEEKS. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS. JUST THINK THERE ARE PEOPLE A LOT WORSE THAN YOU

Do you think it could be the Bisoprolol that makes you tired? How much do you take?

With such sparse symptoms are you sure you need a beta blocker? They make us feel old and tired. It's what they do. I find myself wondering if your cardiologist is playing it overly safe.

I'm not recommending you do what I do but... Daily, instead of a beta blocker I use Hawthorne and when I do have an A-fib event I use metoprolol, the beta blocker my EC recommended along with diltiazem for rhythm control.

no I have AF and had a heart attack so the consultants told me. but not a bad one. I also had blood clots that caused my TIA;s

Welcome. So sorry about the TIA’s, have you also been diagnosed with AF?

Why Wafarin rather than the modern alternatives? Where you given enough information about these drugs and your condition? May I suggest that you go to the AFA website and do some reading heartrhythmalliance.org/afa...

Why the capitol letters?

Unfortunately I don’t have the faith you do in the NHS as I have been let down by the system far too many times. I agree regarding Bisoprolol, one to avoid if at all possible. Please don’t just ‘do what the doctor tells you’. Listen, learn, ask questions but also be an agent in your own health and challenge by informing yourself.

Best wishes CD

Look them all up on line, especially the 'rare side effects'. Cetirizine has a rare side effect of causing the heat to beat too fast and a common side effect of sore throat, sneezing and a blocked, congested or itchy nose.

I have no medical qualifications and do not know you so I don't know if you have the right combination of drugs. I found a small (2.5mgs) daily dose of Bisoprolol helpful in reducing my heart rate until I found it had triggered a very rare side effect, urticaria..

My doctor took me off Bisoprolol and all beta blockers and put me on antihistamines, twice a day. I've now had urticaria for over 16 months. I can no longer eat granary bread, tomatoes, grapes, bananas or oranges without coming out in painful rashes. I've woken up with a painful rash on my upper right arm. Yesterday I had one on my left forearm.

I was put on a new anticoagulant but that triggered another auto-immune condition, so I am happily back with Warfarin.

Fortunately the vast majority of people taking drugs don't have unwanted side effects. I give examples to show we should not assume this or that medication should be taken by anyone else. We are generally not medically trained.

As for the NHS I've found over the years that hospital stays have shortened, with convalescence being at home rather than iin hospital, and that there is more preventative medicine now due to advances in medical science.

Not what you're looking for?
