Afib triggers

My husband had a heart valve replaced some 3 years ago. It all went fine but he has now developed intermittent Afib. No particular trigger (such as alcohol, certain foods or excertion) and I'm wondering if the valve has become dislodged or is malfunctioning. Can this cause Afib? He feels fine and has no symptoms. Does anybody have any knowledge of such a situation?

Heart surgery can cause AF as the surface is disturbed and the electrical pathways can be interupted. This is very common actually I understand.

Is it a tissue or a mechanical valve? He should still be having annual echocardiograms so that would confirm his AF. Normally AF comes within a few days of the replacement. As my surgeon said, the heart doesn't like to be handled.
