high intensity workout

I’m 28 and went into a fib once randomly about a year ago. I have dealt with palpitations and unsustained vtach/svt in the past. This was found while I was playing hockey when I was like 22. So, tonight I played hockey for a few hours and was skating pretty hard. While I was playing I could feel some palpitations and maybe a little flutter that could have been quick bout of svt/vtach. But only a few seconds and I’ve felt that before and I just kept skating. A few hours later I was just sitting at home and yet my heart rate was still a bit high from the game I played previously... I went into what felt exactly like a fib for about 15 seconds and then right back in normal sinus rhythm. Is this normal and or has anyone had working out be a trigger? I have worked out pretty hard in the past few months and haven’t had this happen until tonight. Hopefully just isolated. Scary feeling.

Might indicate a vagal component to your AF. This is distinct from adrenergic AF with fast rhythms during exercise. Some people have both. Apparently many EPs don’t recognise the distinction.

It is well know that excessive exercise can cause AF. What treatment have you been put on and more to the point have you actually seen a cardio arrhythmia specialists to discuss this? Since we are not medically trained here it is always best to seek professional guidance.

I see an electrophysiologist. Just was curious if anyone had dealt with the super short bouts of a fib like that.

I take a beta blocker once daily. I recently just went to my electrophysiologist and had no complaints in almost a year until this happened tonight. Short few seconds and back to nsr, just strange.

Please do see a cardiologist asap.

I too have exercise related AF. During cardio my heart rate will settle into zone 3 around 150 bpm (I've set maximum heart rate to 200 on my heart monitor) but once it gets to 170 it can suddenly jump to 180 or higher. It can just as quickly return to 160. I exercise three or four times a week, usually 2 x 60 minutes and 2 x 30 minutes on a Concept 2 rowing machine and I see that on just about every session. At the end of the session my heart rate drops within a few minutes to 116 to 120, but will stay at 116 for an hour or two. During sleep my heart rate on a non-exercise day is 40 - it used to be mid-20s when I used to really exercise - but 47 on an exercise day.
