Caffeine content of teas

This article might be of interest to those who find that caffeine triggers their AF. White teas are the lowest “genuine” tea for caffeine content. If you buy a high quality white tea it is expensive but can be reinfused repeatedly. Generally, the first infusion of a Chinese tea is discarded which further reduces the caffeine content. So some people might be ok with a white tea even if they cannot tolerate black teas.

A delicious caffeine free herbal tea is Roibos tea which has been mentioned here before.

I have been using PG Decaf for years and lovely. No tea or coffee is truely decaf but reducedcaf doesn't have quite the same ring. By the way weight for weight tea actually has more caffeine than coffee I am told.

Yes, weight for weight tea does. However the caffeine content of a typical cup of coffee is much higher -up to about 200 milligrams. That said, recent research suggests that ordinary coffee is not necessarily a problem for AF; I still drink decaff however.

If I have two cups of latte I get a rush. Not AF but a warning to stop drinking the stuff. Goes back to student days when highly stewed black coffee was consumed by the gallon on a daily basis.

I moved to decaf tea, coffee and not forgetting Coke when i was first diagnosed with AF as there was a possibility that it was a trigger. However over time i have reintroduced the caffeine, not intentionally at first, often by accident ie forgot to ask for decaf when ordering.

I tend to always drink decaf tea at home (Yorkshire Tea Decaff is my fave). I will also have 1 or 2 normal coffees a day also.

If i'm out and about i don't tend to ask for caffeine free options anymore, but i will try to buy the caffeine free Cola for my rum & cokes at home ;-)
