I inherited Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy from, I presume my mother, but lucky enough with the proper medication, diet and keeping a regulated blood pressure has benefited me to an extended life. I am now 74 in age, so that original medical advice has proved correct. On the way I have experienced problems of a 'fast heart' a heart leaping here and there, and on occasion stopping; luckily they were all 'blips' in my life but happily I have made it safely to the age I am now..............Ron,

Great car but not as fast as the ones I build engines for . Sadly don't recognise the make to my shame unless its a Sunbeam?
I agree if this chronic inherited ‘heart muscle’ disease, is managed well, you can lead a fairly ‘normal’ life with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM).
My husband too, has HCM and reached the grand age of 74 but has suffered many of the awful side effects of medication and is on his third Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (ICD). He is also in permanent AF, breathless and in Heart Failure.
This inherited disease can affect family members in a variety of ways. Sadly our nephew died aged 19, of HCM without being diagnosed! The earlier it is diagnosed the better the outcome because you are right, lifestyle changes make such a difference.
Lovely to see how well you look and long may that continue.
Lovely picture - I hope you continue in good health.
Thank you, to you all for such nice comments that are spot on my 'ailment'. HMCguy relates the awful side effects to a tee and obviously has witnessed the 'ailment' close up. Just to add, I did notice something that eased all the effects was to keep my weight and pulse to a minimum, something I discovered myself and still strive to do.
Bye the way the car belonged to my father and was manufactured in Scotland where that photo was taken and where I reside........................................Ron.
Again folks, thank you.
