There isn’t a “best”. Everyone is different and therefore reacts differently to the drugs. I was listening to a medical podcast this week and the speaker said there are indications that AF is not a homogeneous disease but rather it is an umbrella like cancer, which of course has totally different treatments for different types of cancer. I thought that was an interesting perspective.

Which ever one controls symptoms with least side effects. AF is a long journey and you may find it takes a few failed atempts to find the right treatment.

Couldn't agree more BobD, but it is so frustrating finding what is right for you.

It’s really which one is best for you - talk to your doc about the alternatives. I was on Bisoprolol but, even at low dose, it made me very breathless. I now take Nebivolol and find it suits me much better.

I’m getting fewer side effects on Nebivolol than I did on Bisoprolol. I’m not sure that Nebivolol has been quite as effective for me at a like for like dose. I am on it for rate control in permanent AF.

I moved from Bisoprolol toNebivolol to reduce the side effects - no problems so far.

Hi all, I don’t have AF but have had several episodes of arrythmias since I was a young girl, and in my 20s through my 40s I had some episodes lasting three full months. Numerous dr visits gave me no answers but was told once they were benign PATs. I am now 73 and have mild coronary artery disease, diagnosed four years ago. My only symptom of that has been greatly increased arrhythmias, my cardio dr said they are PVCs (my mother had them and was then diagnosed with AFib prior to her death at 83, all my grown children have them, and now a young granddaughter is experiencing these). My arrythmias had been controlled quite well with bisoprolol and diltiazem until about six months ago, when they became increasingly worse: every day, after eating, lying down at night..,,I had a heart monitor a few months ago show some nsvt but my cardiologist wasn’t too concerned. I then passed a walking stress test with no problem. I rarely have problems upon exertion. I’ve always been able to cope with the ‘beats’ as we call them, until the past few months and at times I just wanted to jump off the roof! I wouldn’t but I have become more of a recluse because of feeling so bad, afraid to go out and do much of anything, and have so much trouble sleeping. Reading what many of you are going through, I feel guilty for complaining about my symptoms because I know they could be so much worse. My dr is switching my med from diltiazem to verapamil, and I’m wondering how any of you taking this med have fared. Thanks! I appreciate this group so much.
