When to see GP

Woke up at 4 oclock this morning by erratic heartbeat. Looks like I have gone into Non sinus rythym just 6 weeks after cardioversion. I don't feel too bad apart from feeling heartbeat pounding a bit and numbness in right arm. I never know whether or not to bother my GP, any advice?

When I had my cardioversion done 5 weeks ago they told me to let them know if I went out of rhythm again. So I’m thinking yes, you ought to let someone know. Sorry about it too 😕

I was always told, in my circumstances, that the GP visit was generally a waist of time as they couldn't do ECGs plus my hugely debilitating symptoms usually meant a trip to ED anway for an emergency cardioversion as nothing else got me back into NSR.

It is so confusing with so many GP & A&E behaving differently - at our surgery I have literally walked into reception and said I am worried about my heart and been shown straight through and given a 12 lead ECG which the emergency doctor reviewed and then advised on whether or not to go to A&E. I have sat for 9 hours in A&E and not been given an ECG - until I wanted to go home because I knew I had reverted to NSR. ???!!!

My worry would be the numbness. That needs looking into so go to GP ASAP

The reason why you had a cardioversion was to see if your heart could be brought back into sinus rhythm and to establish if you felt any better by being in rhythm. The fact that the CV did work may suggest to the medics that you could respond well to further treatment such as an ablation. Assuming the CV was arranged by a cardiologist and that you were not discharged from the hospital then you should notify them of the current situation. However, the numbness requires more urgent attention so I suggest you contact your GP this morning and discuss both issues.......

Thanks everyone. Have booked in to see GP for checkup.

Are you still under the care of an EP or rhythm team?

It might be best to contact them. I remember that when I had my first cardiovesion I had a 3 month follow up with my EP

Either go and see your GP or if there is an arrhythmia nurse at the hospital where you had your cardioversion can you call them. Makes sense to follow this up and see if there is further help you can access. Best wishes.

Update to above. Before I got to see my GP I had a " auto cadioversion" and was taken to Hospital after blacking out and collapsing in a shopping centre. All back to normal and have been discharged so alls well for now. Thanks everyone who replied with advice and I hope I might be able to help someone in future as advice from fellow sufferers is appreciated.

It's good you are back in rhythm but not great about the blacking out. Was that caused by the sudden change to NSR or were you overdoing it? I hope all continues to be well!

It was the sudden change to NSR. Right as rain an hour later. Just precautionary checks at Hospital. Thanks.

Sorry you went through the blackout, I've gotten close to it when going up a flight of stairs whilst in fast AF/flutter.... so the only places I go are bed, sofa, toilet or hospital!

Scary but over quickly.
