Hi everyone hope your all as well as can be expected. On Christmas Eve I woke up with the sight in my left eye, like a grey cloud ,I could not see at all .I rang my Doctor, first he said he would send me to stroke clinic ,forgot to say it lasted about 4mins .told me if it happened again to go straight to A&E .his referral was not generated till 27th, because of Xmas hope.He sent me to Opthalmology clinic ,as urgent ,when I went for appointment, the Doctor was not pleased ,said I should have been sent to neurology. She referred me to Consultant at Neurology, more delays. The next day received a telephone call to tell me I had been sent to wrong clinic ,more delays, eventually I was referred toT.I.A. clinic, unknown to me I had had a mini stroke.T.I.A.means Transient Ischemic Attack .So to date I had Carotoidartery scan, which was clear and last week had a brain scan ,I had my operation for another health issue cancelled, until the cause is found So tomorrow I intend to ring secretary to find out what happens now ,as I have follow up appointment which is given when you see Consultant but not until March ,I am on Apixaban, and obviously am very concerned about my health at the moment, just wondered if anyone has had any symptoms similar.Thank you for reading.Pam..

Hi

If you lose sight in your eye you should go straight to a&e. If it was a blockage in you main artery to your eye you can be permanently blind in a few hours. There is only one artery into each eye. Which splits into several branch arteies

I know as I had a bleed in a branch artery in my left eye several years ago . I only investigated the morning after. I have a permanent blind area in that eye. It's only peripheral so not of major significance, but only half an inch further back it would have been!

Hi Speedy6 Thank you so much for your reply. What I did not put in was I rang 111 and because I answered no to every question she asked me ,except about losing sight ,she told me to speak with my Doctor within two hours ,it was Xmas Eve , hour's later I spoke with him.i think he was wrong to tell me ,I did not need to go to A&E only if it happens again.i should have just taken myself there, because they would have given me more answers .Yes I forgot to put in I am A.F.and on Apixaban.Sincere Regards Pam

Has it improved with time? I ask hecause my husband had an arterial occlusion . The first time it cleared up and the opthalmo saw nothing but a few days later it came back and seriously impaired his vision in that eye. The opthalmo said that was it nothing could be done but gradually there has been a little improvement. He had a Doppler which showed minor narrowing in the carotid artery.

No , no improvement, but as I said it is very peripheral like an eyebrow shape top right of left eye. I only notice it sometimes in a bright background so it is not a major issue fortunately. But if there is a next time it's straight to a&e!

I have exactly the same eyebrow shape top of left eye.....diagnosed as glaucoma 12 years ago. I have continually refused the beta blocker drops as they gave me headaches. There has been no deterioration when I have the field test which detects this and the pressure in my eye is normal. I'm now wondering if I had a TIA without realising it.

Hi, I lost the sight completely in my left eye just before Christmas. It lasted about 2 minutes. For six months before that I had been having a grey cloud obscuring my vision in the top right hand corner which lasted for a minute at a time. A and E Christmas week then referred to opthamology consultant he then referred me to stroke clinic. BP ok all blood tests ok. Scan of carotid arteries ok. They said could have had a TIA but that wouldn't explain the partial vision loss over the previous months. A few days later had a CT cerebral angiogram. Where they said a blood vessel feeding my left eye was narrower than the same vessel on the right. Referred to an Interventional Radiologist at another hospital had more CT scans. His diagnosis as the blood vessels were fine

6 months later and my consultant says they are unable to pinpoint the cause "these things can happen sometimes without the cause being identified!"

That was the Christmas before last and it hasn't happened again????

So I've stopped worrying about it and just got on with my life. Got enough to deal with, with my proximal AF

Hope it clears up for you

Best wishes

John

I had a gray curtain cover my left eye for around 2minutes a year ago. I went to the ER and had the usual tests for TIA. That was the diagnosis...tia. I was feeling very stressed that morning when it happened. So far I haven’t had it happen again.
