I have sleep apnea and waking up a couple of times per night with my heart racing about 90 bpm. But upon waking can have it down to 60 in about 90 seconds. Is that afib? Nothing ever happens when I am awake.

Perhaps you should discuss having a 7 day Holter with your Doctor as this is probably the only way to accurately determine what your heart is doing during the night.....

Thank you. I am actually wearing one right now. I guess my concern is mainly that I’m not on a blood thinner yet. Go back to dr on 28 th. If this is afib, I’m having it every night.

Are you familiar with the CHADsVASC scoring system, if you score 1 you should certainly consider taking an anticoagulant, if more than one arrange to be on one as soon as possible. Google it to find out more

If it is just racing it probably isnt AF but if it is fast and irregular it may be. 90 bpm is quite low for AF. Learn how to take your pulse and you will start to understand. Sleep apnoea is often associaated with AF but as Flapjack mentions the holter monitor should prove one way or the other.

Thank you BobD. It’s going to seem a long time until the 28 th when I go to dr

Do you have a cpap machine for the SA?

Yes, I’m always using it when this happens

hmm, sounds like it's not working too well. What is your API if you don't mind me asking. Mine is averaging 0.3 at the moment

Is that the number of events per hour? Mine vary widely from less than 1 to 4

in reply to Sittowa241

That's the one. It may be worth speaking to your sleep clinic to see if they can help further?

I wake often the same. My sleep test said mild Sleep apnea (evidently NHS in Guildford don't treat when just 7 holds per hour). You might want to try a nasal strip it improves things a bit for me.

Hi, I used to wake up with palpitations (possibly AF) and had a consultation at the Sleep Clinic where they thought the cause was my mask ill-fitting and leaking causing apeona episodes. They gave me a new mask with a better fit which doesn’t leak and it resolved the problem.

As apeona events puts strain on the heart, it is best to check this out.

I will! Thank you. How many episodes hourly do you have now??
