Hi everyone thanks so much for all your best wishes, I hope I have answered everyone and apologise if I have missed anyone, not intentionally just a bit drowsy .
Well.......... I arrived at the hospital yesterday at 8am and had just checked in and sat in the waiting area to be taken to my room. My husband was with me and got a sudden onset of Angina as we sat down, he used his spray and the pain went but I was all ready to cancel my procedure but luckily my daughter and grandson were with us so she convinced me they would be o.k. It obviously added to the stress of me also not wanting this ablation procedure and was I looking for another excuse to cancel.... I am such a wimp.
Got taken to my room and put into a designer hospital gown lol and in walked my consultant to explain the procedure, very kind, very nice and helped to put me at ease a little. Then he was followed by the anethiasist , also very kind and very nice put me at ease a little more but to be fair I was still frightened.
Tell it as it is lol.
I then said my goodbyes to my family, hugging them ........the drama queen that I am!!!! Was then walked down into the theatre and was introduced to the rest of the lovely team who all in turn promised to look after me.
My consultant reassure me again all would be fine and my anethiasist proceeded to put the catheter in the front of my hand and said I would start feeling drowsy....that was the last thing I heard.
I woke up to smiley faces and my consultant saying it went well, and he believes it to be successful. He said no more flecanide hoorahhh. Was taken to the HDU to be monitored.
I felt tired but honestly o.k. I was told I would have to lay still for a few hours and they would gradually lift me ,this was for the groin to heal properly. Unfortunately , not anyone’s fault but after 4 hours it started to bleed so I ended up being flat for 9 hours approx but had two meals on my back, so it couldn’t have been that bad for me to still be treating my stomach lol. The worst part I would say was the ache in my back and I think this was probably due to the years I have always slept on my stomach and have an arch in my back. The other part was not being able to wee but that came in its own time, 2 in the morning, luckily into a bed pan.
I am adding all the graphics for those who are as frightened as I was.
I go home this afternoon with the biggest bruise you can imagine at the top of my leg but it honestly does not hurt. Been taking strepsils for the sore throat but otherwise feel fine and I hope I don’t but if ever I need another one I would say yes straight away, can’t believe I have put this off for 18 years. My birthday on the 15th so Happy birthday present from me and the team to me.
Please to everyone that’s frightened take heart..... look after yourself and consider this procedure, you are in safe expert hands.
Signing off now sorry so long.....love Ursula x
Ps declined adding photo of my bruise lol🤗

Good to read Ursula. Now rest and make sure you are pampered for AGES. Two weeks at least First week TV remote only and the next week you can make the tea.
Thanks Bob, and thank you for being there for me. I will keep logging into site because as you have said before some people get fixed and leave and I think it’s possitive for others if success is relayed and I am hoping fingers crossed I can keep posting monthly that I am n NSR.
Thank you for your story, I am awaiting an appointment for ablation and am as nervous as you were. I feel a little reassured after reading about your experience x
Glad to be of help let us know how you go on, am sure you will be fine, I am sat here quite pleased that I have been so brave lol, arnt I the proper wimp . X
Thanks Rellim2, hope it really is going to be fully successful , I intend to do monthly posts so everyone knows how I am getting on, hoping to help those as you said who are waiting. Cheers Ursula x
Pleased you are ok and thank you for being so frank and open. Best wishes for a good heart calm recovery and happy birthday for the 15th. Hope your husbands angina settled guess stress had got to him too. All's well that ends well. Be well, rest plenty. X
Thanks so much meadfoot, yes stress is the correct word when he had his heart attack they could only put one stent in instead of two. They found a lesion by chance on his kidney and they can’t tackle that until at least 4 months after the stent, can’t even take a biopsy, this is one of the reasons I got mine done so we can now concentrate on Colin , the four months will be up next month then we can find out what it is, tackle that then move onto the next stent. It’s all to do with blood thinners apparently. Ursula x
You are both having a tough time. Here's to getting you both sorted so you can sail off to a healthy future and put stress behind you. All the best for a better 2019 now.
Very pleased to hear everything went well for you! I'm due in for an ablation on the 15th so it's been reassuring for me to to read such a positive post, particularly after your earlier uncertainty. Good luck in your recovery!
Will be thinking of you, that’s my birthday Velgor ,I have been totally honest when I said I was petrified and I honestly would go again if it was necessary. Ursula
It's lovely to hear that all went well. Please make sure that you do get plenty of rest now and allow your heart to heal. It's so reassuring to be looked after so well during the ablation isn't it. For my first two, I had a nurse each time just sat watching me to see when to give me more sedation. My third was under a general anaesthetic, so I knew little about it and I preferred that way.
Looking back we wonder why we were ever worried.
How is your husband now after his scare? Happy birthday for the 15th.
Thanks Jean, He’s better now , seeing cardiologist next Tuesday to see how long more he has to wait till they can look at the lesian on his kidney, think it’s stress that’s bringing his angina on, really hope this first ablation is THE ablation that sorts it so I can concentrate on Colin. Did your groin bleed a bit after the GA. just a bit worried now I am home , darent remove the dressing in case it starts bleeding more. Colin reckons I ought to leave dressing on so that it can seal itself. Ursula x thanks for the birthday wishes.
I am so pleased it all went well for you. Thank you for sharing this as I am going in for an ablation on the 23rd of Jan and what you have described has given me some reassurance. I hope you get well soon. Please keep us updated with your progress.
Hi Lorlaw70 , thanks, keep possitive as I said I am a wimp, feeling a lot better this morning bruise massive but no pain and heart rate normal, will keep posting x good luck on 23rd x
Well done and so pleased that it's gone well for you. It was great to read your post and very reassuring. I've been waiting for a date for my ablation - told it would be November but now saying February. Really want to have it done but would prefer if it could be done when I'm not there!!!!! Have a lovely birthday and good health.
That was so funny Petrified, please keep calm and carry on and think of spring When everything will be over and you can plan holidays🤗 x thanks for the wishes Ursula
Oh...I'm so grateful for the detailed information! Petrified! I will probably cry en route to the room.....
So glad you are settling down now, please take every care and enjoy a very happy birthday 🎂! Well done for conquering your fear,I hope my courage holds up..may have to have a bit of a shove into the hospital by other half...
Hi Wilsond, please be brave, if I tell you I am such a wimp even when I go to the dentist just for a check up ! I honestly think that if my Colin had not had his heart attacks I would not have had it done but felt I needed to so we could concentrate on him getting better, I have delayed it for about 18 years, now it’s done and I am hoping I can make holiday arrangements and days out without having the anxiety of having a do and start enjoying life , keep me posted x Ursula
Thank you,I have had 3 unrelated operations, made a new will each time, and letters to my grown up boys..cried route to theatre..it's probably on my notes...Will Weep!!
So glad it's not just me,and that you did it!! Well well done!from one wimp to another( with all due respect!) Very glad it went well. Now they say...easy does it.Please rest .Best wishes xxxx
So pleased it went well. I think the thought of the procedure is so much worse than the actual event. The bruising might well get worse over the next few days but will never hurt and is quite impressive if you want to get sympathy from the family! Rest and let others take care of you.
Me too, will be thinking of you. Got up this morning feeling fine, heart rate good, massive bruise on groin which is causing no pain. Keep me posted Ursula x
Hi Ursula thank you so much, great to hear you so chipper. That's a very informative post and very reassuring for those of us still waiting for a date and just a little petrified lol. Rest well please keep updating us as I for one am very interested. Sue X
Definately not over the top john6, everyone knows the remote belongs to the female who only gives it up in the football season lol the tea bit is ok as long as I take BobD advise and only do it for a week lol x
Hi Sue, will do, feel good this morning , will keep posting how things are going, can’t believe I finally went through with it, I was a nightmare this time last week. X
Congratulations Happy New Year and an early Happy Birthday.I wish you so much success and healing. I am. O glad it went well for you and will ease a lot of minds by your updated report. I am taking the steps towards ablastion as I was diagnosed with Afib in Sept and have been told the earlier you get it the better. I know things do not move so quickly here as still waiting for sleep apnea test and echo but having cardioversion on the 21 and starting antiarrythmic on mon here that is required or no ablation.
So pleased to read all these positive posts. I dont log in that often, as I start feeling very stressed. My hubby still waiting for a date but I phoned the hospital a few days ago and they have assured me his appointment should come through within the next 4-6 weeks and there is only one other who has been waiting longer than him. Continue to rest and recover - thinking of each and every one of you on this site.
Good luck, try not to get stressed, I got in quickly because I went private, 4/6 weeks will pass quickly then hopefully you can both enjoy the spring time weather and feel more calm x
