I’ve been in afib for twenty months and My ablation was put off by the doctors due to other medical conditions and the doctors didn’t seam worried about me being in persistent afib because it is controlled with meds. So here I am in the doctors office for my heart check up and the doctor says “how long have you been in afib “ while he reading through my chart and he says “you need to get in and get the ablation because the longer I wait the harder it will be to get it straightened out” I’m like are you serious!! I’m like Sir we could have had this done 9 months ago because that’s when I was medically clear to be put to sleep! They new when I was cleared!!
My question is that how long has anyone out there in afib land who have been in persistent afib for more then 20 months and had a successful ablation?
Please someone help me!!!!

Has your EP given you a figure for your prospects of success? Is his advice influenced by financial considerations?
I believe that left atrial enlargement at echocardiogram negatively impacts success rates generally.
I had an episode which started in July 2016 and my ablation was in Feb 2018.
I did drop into NSR without intervention for 6 months during the wait for my ablation, but i didn't inform my EP in case they took me off (or moved me down) the waiting list.
At no point was i offered a cardioversion during this wait, even though i did ask on a couple of occasions
Hi I was in permanent af for nearly 4 years had 3 failed cv had a thing called a hybrid ablation had second stage in March this year have been af free since then was offered this procedure due to the length of time I was in af and due to my age was 45 when I was diagnosed not the nicest procedure but certainly helped me
I was in persistent AF for at least 2 years and paroxysmal for about a decade before. My last ablation, my 4th was done 2 3/4 years ago and except for some short AF runs and ectopic all is well. Depends his experienced your EP is I think.
