Hi all, just an update. Went to see EP after having palpitations and being in AF even though I was on 80mg Sotalol x 2. Discussed with her on treatment plan. Agreed that we’ll see how it goes after she puts me on an increased dose of 120mg x 2. So far so good. If this does not seem to work we will proceed with cryoablation. My question is has anyone here have experience with an increased dose of Sotalol and it has controlled the AF better? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks everyone.

Meds Vs Ablation
Here in UK sotalol is not on the recommeneded list for treatment of AF although it is occasionally used by soem EPs so doubt we can help much.
I took Sotalol for PAF for 8 years finishing up on 120mgs x 2 before having an ablation. With hindsight it probably wasn’t the best choice for my mainly vagal AF. It may have slowed the rate of progression but it wasn’t clear cut.
OK. Thanks Oyster for sharing.
I was on Sotalol for about 15 months and ended up on 160mg twice a day. (I had previously been on Verapamil and then Flecainide). When that dose of Sotalol wouldn’t hold it Digoxin was added but this didn’t work either (this was 2 weeks after an ablation but I had a lot of inflammation). A few weeks later I was changed to Amiodarone and Digoxin and Atenolol. I’m still having some AF and ectopics but I’m finally starting to feel like we may be getting somewhere. Looking forward to getting off these horrid drugs soon.
Tq Kaz. Here’s hoping that we will all find a suitable treatment for us soon and yeah I yearn for the day when we can be off that toxic meds. Anyways, must always remind myself to always stay positive and never give up to hope and dream that one day I will be AF-free. 😀
All the meds are really trial and error. Sotalol is a combo drug that works really great for some and now so well for others. Keep a record of your episodes and how you are feeling. Research now shows that ablation done sooner than later increases chances for success, so don't fear that choice.
