Music to reduce anxiety and heart rate

Interesting article which claims that neuroscience supports the claim that certain (listed) pieces of music reduce anxiety and slow the heart rate.

Well, music works for me in calming my heart.About 90% classical and the rest musicals from 'times of yore'.I prefer classical music as in a concert or recital .Some of that comes to me via the tv or radio.

Many years ago I met a former member of the Rubettes group who had developed a special musical bed for alternative therapy. It had loads of different pitch speakers under it and according to your ailment he fed sounds to them which vibrated on different areas and thus your body. Quite a strange sensation but seemed to work on the anxiety I was going through at the time.

Interesting, Sam. Will keep the link to read and listen to. Thank you for sharing, loved the music. Was looking at the lake and wondering if it was one I know which is high on Cadair Idris in North Wales.

Don’t mention Cadair Idris to me. It was the following week after we had blatted up and down Cadair with a guide in super stressful cardio workout I developed the Atrial Flutter.

Learned my lesson the hard way LOL. Seriously though I am sure there was an underlying electrical problem but I am convinced that the effort of that yomp triggered it off. One of the partners in my surgery does a lot of work with the British Everest team and AFib is a common problem.

It wasn't Cadair that caused the problem if it started the week after. Lol. What a shame you were rushed up and couldn't stroll and stop to take in the amazing views. There are so many beautiful walks in that area. I know it very well, as I've visited at least once a year since the 1980's, not recently though. Any constant strenuous exercise can trigger AF, some will tell you that the same thing can stop an attack. I used to walk, run, cycle, swim and ride, that's why I think I have AF. I did too much, but thought I was keeping myself fit!

I agree, I think it was the trigger though

I'm a music therapist (also with AF) who has produced CDs of this sort of music - it addresses the right side of the brain almost entirely and uses the property which music has of 'entrainment' (at its simplest it will rapidly slow down physiological functions such as respiration rates, blood pressure and hence reduce anxiety). Oddly enough I'm doing a live drop-in session on keyboard this afternoon in Bacton, North Norfolk for exactly this reason. The nice thing is that it works across many cultures, ages - my CDs have been heard in 40 countries and the responses are very similar. Look at petrapeace.co.uk if you are interested - not meant to be an advert, just info from a fellow-AF sufferer ...

So I can rule out AC/DC “Live at the River Plate” then. Bet its cold in Bacton, we have freezing fog in Norwich

Frederick Delius is best for me. I can't stand contemporary pop music, none of it has a "relaxing" effect on me. I don't think that "study" reached anything like wide enough in the musical styles it incorporated.
