Whilst doing a little research recently on cardiac physiology and medicine in sport I came across this article, its an interesting paper although a couple of months old now and may well have already been put up on this site so apologises if it has already been aired.....An interesting article from America which is worth reading.
Anxiety, Nutrition, Hydration, lifestyle changes, electrolyte deficiency to name but a few impact on this condition...… Minor changes could save or delay expensive procedures and unnecessary medication however, advice on these topics from the medical profession varies considerable with some GP's, consultants etc going through and discussing everything to others who hardly mention anything outside of Ablation, medication etc...…"Singing off the same hymn sheet comes to mind"

Now ….. if only all HCPs (especially cardiologists and EPs) could be made to learn and internalise the 5 things that AF patients do, and don't, want to hear that would be a huge step in the right direction!
Oh I do like that writer. I especially like the refference to anticoagulants and "Doctors fear bleeds but patients fear strokes. "
I recall a talk given by Prof Greg Lip a few years ago when he commented that if a doctor ( GP) had a patient who had a GI bleed he would be far less likely to prescribe anticoagulants in the next six months but a patient with a stroke would have no affect.
Interesting article thanks. I am pleased the EP I consulted did the 5 things patients want to hear. Making treatment decisions for AF is difficult but it helps if you can discuss them.
If only . . . the article should be essential study in medical schools! I was trying to imagine what my life would have been like without online input from this forum and other sources.
