Any computer geeks out there. My old one died and this new one doesn't have spell check on here hence my dyslexic key board is having a field day . Anybody know how I can switch it on?

MIke it is turned on as I just checked but I have managed to add suggestions which it lacked before by switching on the keyboard! Thanks . It still lacks right click options and underlined misspellings like my old one though. Slightly better now.

Bob, In this forum I can right click on a word (no need to highlight it) I've attempted to spell and get a suggestion. Write some words in a post and put sugggestion with three g's like mine. Right click on that word and it will give the correct spelling. Sometimes automatic spellcheckers are a pain, so I keep mine off on my PC.

What sort is the new one Bob? If it’s an iPad, go into Settings, then General then keyboard then turn it on with the toggle.....no charge....😂

My browser tends to spell check me as I go, well I think it's my browser not my Operating system.

My browser Chrome does too with an extension called 'Grammarly' which I find very useful.

The Microsoft spellchecker only seems to work when it feels like it :-)

Its a proper office/weapons grade HP290 with SSD and windows 10 whatever that is and a HUGE memory but like all computers is dyslexic when I use it. Jean my old one used to have the right click thing but this one doesn't .

Oh dear this modern technology is all too much for us isn't it! My PC is 5 years old, but I do have Windows 10 on it.

I hate having any new electrical items these days, they're never straightforward to use! A guy who used to work at the same electronic engineering company as me and now does IT work got me my PC and set it up the way I like it. I hate dealing with people like Currys who have all the hidden extra charges and I always buy from the small private shops, who'll fit or set up whatever you buy free of charge and explain everything too. Trouble is I think most of those small businesses are closed now. 😢

Good luck

I'm hanging on to Windows 7 for as long as I can!

It ceases to be supported after 2019 Pam so you will have to change.

I guess I'll have to go for it, Bob! My laptop is very slow so I'll have no choice if I buy a new one. We are still Win 7 at work but have migrated to Office 365. Cannot get my head around that!

I loved your comment about electrical equipment Jeanjeannie. I remember the good old days when you had an on and an off switch and that was it!

I had a pacemaker fitted recently and was sent home with this amazing bit of kit which sends signals from my pm to the clinic so they can monitor it's performance. Trouble is the "destructions " were written by a chinaman before being translated into Russian and then English. I was home for three weeks when the clinic rang me to see why I hadn't set it up!

Nothing ever changes does it? Many years ago I bought one of the first ever "Taylor action" electronic lap timing devices for our race team. In the instructions it stated "Timing capability. 9 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds. Battery life approximately six hours. "

I understand exactly what you mean Becks. Nothing is easy these days.

When I bought my new washing machine I couldn't understand when I put just one item in, why it wouldn't spin it. Rang the shop where I'd bought it to be told, "No madam it works by weight, if you don't put enough in, it wont spin". Wish they'd told me that before I bought it, but they never do, do they! The most annoying thing I ever bought was a small saucepan with a lid, the leaflet that came with it said, "Not to be used on high heat!! Scream!!

Sounds like a job for one of the boys to me!

Follow as per john6 above, but in last line toggle to ON which would normally be the default. The iOS 12 spellchecker may work better on an apple, than the embedded Windows 10 programme on a pc, with the HU website.

If you use FireFox or any of its generic equivalents

Click on Tools in your Browser bar ( thats if you have it on display )

Go to >Options

then > Advanced

then > General

and tick - Check your spelling as you type.

Aaaahhh! Windows 10. Grrrr.

Treat yourself to an iPad Bob, you won’t regret it! My husband hates anything in the least big tekky, - he’s more of a spanner and torque wrench man - but he loves his IPad!

If you're using Chrome, go to customise (3 dots in top right corner), then settings, then scroll down and go to advanced settings, then under languages, spell check, click English (United Kingdom) to on.

I can't wait for my Hospital to upgrade to windows 10 :\

Old Windows 7 will not be supported after next year I was told so they will have to change.. One reason I had to change was that it was taking 10 mins or more to load each day due to updates not working . (Corrupting files as well).

Yep done all that above thank you all . Now get options but no underlining so once I have moved on any misteaks are lost. (deliberate typo for amusement ). Can you not get underlining or highlighted words with windows 10?

I know Win7 will not be supported next year. That is no reason at all to change. As long as the antivirus works, with a browser, you will do fine. Last year I bought one of the last Win7 machines on the market and hope to use it for at least 10 years. Many Win7 owners have given up on security updates long ago -- they crash the computer more often than a virus does.

I have installed Word 2003 and grabbed the docx converter while still available. You might not be able to install newer printers etc, but there is an easy workaround. Get a cheap ubuntu computer (they are excellent with drivers) and, push comes to shove, move a document to it for printing.

I am tired of being forced to use and learn a new operating system, every 5 years or so. Win10 is notorious for instability and crashing/pranging the updates. The main reason I do not use Ubuntu is that I have too many programs that require Windows.
