“Wobbly” heart.

As I’ve mentioned a few times I suffer from PAF at night. Last night I woke up at about 4am and had the sensation that my heart was “wobbling” very slightly. The clearest description I can give is that it felt like it was made of jelly and was wobbling ever so slightly. There was no pain or discomfort. I checked my pulse and it was slow and regular and I went back to sleep. It occurred to me that this sensation might have followed some PAF when I was sleeping (I am still waiting for a Holter test). Of course, it might just be the fact that I was not fully awake. Has anyone experienced anything like this before or have any ideas what, if anything, it might be?

I myself get this regularly I've got svt so really don't if their connected I don't know why it happens but I'm that used to it now I just tend to ignore but at first it worried me I'm on tablets to slow my heart rate down but every now and again or when I'm ill my heart still beats very fast it's frightening but the calmer you are the quicker it settles the holster test should show more mine picked up my heart was skipping nine beats a min which was knocking it out of rhythm I wouldn't worry too much I think it's all part and parcel of heart arrithymia x

I get this too. I have paroxysmal af & flutter.well controlled but I occasionally get the feeling of a shaking heart it doesn’t last long and it’s not disturbing . Like yourself I’ve no idea what it is as my pulse is regular when I can feel it. I just think if it’s not upsetting don’t worry because I’m on all the treatment and at the end of the day I’ve got an electrical disturbance so maybe it’s just part and parcel of having the condition. Anyone know any different? Regards Mary

Especially if it only occurs at night, might want to check with MD/EP about possibility it might be caused by sleep apnea. They may send you for an overnight sleep study to check.

I did read about sleep apnea, but I doubt I have it as I don’t snore, am not particularly overweight and have never woken up breathless etc. But I will ask the GP when I next see him.Thanks.

I suffer from PAF too and I get this some nights usually between 3 and 5 am. I put it down to the vagal nerve and my digestive system disturbing my heart rhythm. I try not to eat anything, especially fatty food at least 2 hours before sleep.

I occasionally get this too. It feels as if the bed is shaking from side to side and lasts about 2 - 3 minutes. It’s always when I’m in bed.

Would be good idea to have sleep study. Sleep apnea can occur in anyone. Doesnt have to be related to weight.

Hi Sam,

What you describe seems to me you suffer a slight touch of Anxiety, as you know, nerves do affect parts of the body especially the Heart and the 'old love books' used to relate, ''and my heart fluttered as she said, I love you''........that 'touch' of Anxiety.
