Few months ago I was put on Diltiazem Sr 90 twice daily after switching from Bisoprolol 2.5 for my occasional AF. But my HR was raised to 100 bpm. Bp raised. So I was again switched to Bisoprolol. That made me stable and lowered my HR. Recently I have some ectopics. I again started Diltiazem. But HR again raised. So I hv to take the old drug again. Bp also raised. Can anybody comment? I can remain stable with Bisoprolol except those ectopics.

Hi there - I take both of these drugs (well not the Biso, that was changed to 5 mg Nebivolol recently) Diltiazem I take 180 once a day but I have permanent AF. Is the Diltiazem for the ectopics - is there any reason that your medics will prescribe both meds together.
Cassie
I was not given both drugs simultaneously. Diltiazem stopped and switched to Bisoprolol. I can say that in my case Diltiazem is a problem for me.
Hi Cassie was just wondering if u have been in permanent afib long ? Does it affect your day to day life much ? I am 41 year old male and my heart will not stay in nsr I have to ablations so permanent it may become
Hi Maund - I was diagnosed with AF nearly 5 years ago (I am 71 now) and I believe that I had probably had it for a long time but never picked up. No one told me if it was PAF, persistant or permanent. I have never been offered an ablation or a cardioversion and in the last few years my AF has been referred to as permanent, so I donn't know what it feels like to be in NSR. I manage day to day and am generally ok, have bad runs of feeling tired, breathless not up to much. I do not get the bad palpatations that many people get, just quietly tick over most of the time, just mild symptoms. I have recently changed the Biso for Nebivolol because of the breathlessness and that has improved greatly as well as feeling more alive. I did eventually see an EP last year, I went privately as my cardiologist would not refer me, got GP to do this and my only option now is pace and ablate, which I am still considering. One thing my EP said is that the drugs were probably causing most of my problems.

Hi I also take both drugs , 360 sr diltizam and 2.5 nebivolol , I have persistent afib leaning towards permanent
Sorry have not taken Diltiazepam but it is on the table as I have just come off bisoprolol. This does not bode well if I react like you!
Is there any other explanation for your underlying bp to be raised?stress?change in diet? Just wondered
I too diltiazem and was very unwell on it so the cardiologist put me on verapramil and I’m fine on that and also take Apixaban anticoagulant perhaps that may suit you better
Same thing happens to me. Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker and he other is a beta blocker. They work different. I need a beta blocker to control my heart rate. It's too bad because the beta blockers make me so tired.
