What side effects do you get? I use sun block for my face though a bit slap dash with arms and legs and haven't turned green yet, though when out for long walks do not purposely seek the sun.

As for side effects i am sure i have some but with a dose of mind over matter nothing significant. Good luck.

Had to come off amiodarone after 3 weeks unpset thyroid ended up in A & E hospital 4 days On Solatol now is better but still a bit lighted headed,

I've taken this in the past and through a hot summer. Wore a floppy hat alot and tried to avoid sitting directly in sun. This came hard to me as previously I had been an ardent sun worshipper . This was over 20 years ago (!) Have since resorted to fake tan..... I can't say that I experienced awful side effects. It just did not do a very good job of keeping me AF free. I have been on it a few times since for short periods.

You seem to have been on this for quite a while. Has your EP mentioned alternatives e.g. Flecainide, Disopyramide ?

Amiodarone and Pacerone are absolutely horrific drugs, at least for my system. I tried them many years ago for AF, and they almost killed me. My heart was racing faster than it had ever been. I chose a rate strategy, instead of a rhythm strategy, and I immediately stopped taking Amiodarone. In fact, I now have this drug listed as something to which I am allergic.

I was worried about taking it but so far have been lucky with side effects the sun doesn’t seem to affect me but I don’t sit in it from choice. I have regular blood tests and weigh myself regularly to watch for thyroid issues. However it doesn’t seem to have improved my ectopic frequency so I’m hoping to reduce or come off it next appointment.

AMIODORONE

I am not being funny but have you read the leaflet and/or researched this drug on the internet.

Why are you on it, what is it supposed to do for you?

Also if you use the search box above there are many posts on this drug in including some myself.

It is a really nasty drug and is only supposed to be the drug of last resort.

Hope this helps

I was put on this drug prior to having a cardio version, they would not do this procedure unless I took this medicine, but because of the side effects I want to come off it asap. This procedure was over a year ago now.

Sorry I am not a doctor but did the cardio version work? Is it still working? Have you looked up or do you about the side effects of this tablet and possible damage it can do. What do your consultant/doctor say about being on it or coming off it.

You can look me up on this site and see what I have written about problems I had with it But I am not doctor so don't know what your history is.

Hope it works out for you OK

Hi, I completely empathise with you.

I care for my husband who has several heart issues not least AF. I recall him being on Amioderone for many years and his extreme sensitivity to the sun. He used ROC SPF 40 which was like putting toothpaste on his skin! However without it, he would blister very easily, always needed to cover up and wear a hat. Importantly his ears would blister where the hat did not cover also his eyes, he needed to wear sunglasses even in low sunlight. It was awful, It is impossible to avoid the sun without staying indoors? There are other side affects also, which are unpleasant.

He is no longer on Amioderone but heed the warning that it remains in your system for some time afterwards, we were advised up to 9 months! I am guessing from other posts that some people are more sensitive than others?

Thank you so much for your reply, I'm glad your husband is no longer on this medicine, I am hoping to come off it soon, I don't go out in the sun at all because I am afraid of getting very burnt.

I took it for 7 months this year. It did not stop the afib, caused my bp to go way up, gave me headaches and body aches, weakness. Luckily it did not damage my thyroid. I wore spf 50 and covered up when out in the sun. I was told it would take 3-4 months to be out of my system. I was put on flecanaide which stopped my afib. Flecanaide makes me tired but I will live with that. Ask your doc to stop the amio, there are other drugs you can take.

I was taking 200mg at night and I hated this medication. I started on 400mg in August 2015. I felt the very thing that saved my life was killing me. No sun, rosacia, weight gain, breathlessness, leg pain, etc!

I talked to my cardio in March and told him I was done. He was very worried for me. He gave me a monitor to wear to see if arythmia would be an issue. It was. He put me on Eliquis. After almost four months off of Amiodarone, I'm able to climb stairs, I'm losing weight, my energy has increased. I also started taking magnesium taurate and it has helped. I'm still under the care of my cardiologist. If I feel like I'm in A-Fib I'll drop by for an EKG. I take nothing that can make my heart race. I'd rather my people deal with my ADHD than heart irregularities.

I feel very blessed that my experience getting off this medication has been good.

Whatever you do, stay close to your doctor(s).

I do hope you've heard from your cardiologist by now.

I also take Metropolol 100 extended release.

I have been taking Amiodorone for 9yrs now and agree with you that not being able to enjoy the sunshine as I used to because of this drug. Six months after an ICD inserted and taking Amiodorone I went on holiday to a sunny resort as it was already booked. I sat under a brolly and used Factor 50 and covered up when walking about. It was frustrating but I managed. I have found that sunhats are a must - one that shades neck area too. If I stand in sun without a hat my scalp begins to tingle after 10 minutes! It is my head and neck that burn quickly. I am determined to enjoy the sun as much as I can so have got plenty of hats now.
