Flecanide vs Rythmol
Flecanide as my PIP always beings me back to NSR.. Are you on blood thinners for stroke protection ?
Propafanone (Rhythmol) was what my EP put me on all those years ago after initial cardiologist put me on flec as pip. Suited me quite well. Only side effect was slight metallic taste on high doses.
Thanks Bob,did you take it twice a day or did you have the slow release
At the worst time I was three times a day at 300mg but that it exceptional. Poison dose is 1200mg a day. Long time ago now. Both drugs you need to be sure there are no cardiac artery problems. Flecainide always used to be started in a hospital environment and given alongside a beta blocker. Seems not every doctor does that these days. I also understand that here in UK either drug can not be prescribed in the first instance by a GP, only by consultant level.
Hi BobD am on propafenone (rythmol) 225 mg 3 times daily and warfarin to prevent stroke... also have a pacemaker. have u had or heard of any long term effects of taking such high doses of propafenone???
No in a word. It used to make me have a slight strange metallic taste in my mouth at 900mg a day but strangely when I took one 150 mg to see if it helped ectopics a while back I had the same taste although do not remember it at that dose ten years ago when I had my last successful ablation. One of our members claimed it affected his memory if I remember right.
I took Propafenone for many years, 150mg twice a day because I couldn't cope with higher dose. You have to take it with food so that is a consideration as I believe Flecainide needs an empty stomach. Even so my digestive system didn't like it at all but it is very sensitive. I was never offered ER tabs.
Thanks for the reply
Flecainide is a comparatively old tried and tested drug and safest for those without any other comorbidities. I was concerned going onto a medium dose of 200mgs/day but have had no problems for 4+ years. Good luck.
No, surprising to some I know but with pulse below 60 and BP around 116/60 my cardiologist said BBs would only make me feel unwell.
