Massive study sheds light on the genetic roots of atrial fibrillation
Thanks for that, very interesting. No real surprise for me as I can identify my AF with both a genetic base and a vagal nerve base.

Interesting article spoiled of course by the use of the term "blood thinners"!!
Pretty much confirms what I have been saying for years about genetic pre-disposition but will it help those who acquire AF through over exercise ?
We must remember that the first ablations for AF were around the early 90s and although known about the stroke risk side of things was not being addressed here in UK till around 2007 so it is all very new science.
"Interesting article spoiled of course by the use of the term "blood thinners"!!" annoys the hell out of me as well - just pure sloppy reporting from a source that should know better.
Thank you for this. The linked article " Explore further" at the end is essential reading. So anyone with AF is NEVER cured and anticoagulants are always necessary.
Thank you for posting this - hope on the horizon of treatment.
The linked article is interesting regarding on-going stroke risk. It made me think that the physical action of AF is not the only cause of stroke in AF sufferers. Surely not all of those who had strokes failed to notice that their AF had returned but it was silent?
Dr Gupta talks about ‘the company AF keeps’ - I wondered if one of the genetic traits could increase stroke risk whether the heart is in AF or not.
Well, very interesting to me,Mum had AF and her mum, both had AF strokes, neither were anticoagulated,I was diagnosed at 53,but think I had it before that.
