With me it is usually postural or I have slept on it.
It could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome , Mr. Google will give you more information . Either Boots or internet will show you a light splint , worn at night it , can help .

I have the impression that they could be caused by heart/circulation problems, and represent a symptom that should be brought to your GPs attention. May be something to do with not enough oxygen getting round the system. Having said all that I would try a large glass of water each time and see if that helped, before setting about presenting myself at the doctor's in due course to discuss the problem.
If you are drinking lots anyway, then I'm not sure that that will help. If you have any puffiness then your heart may be struggling to pump the blood around sufficiently, and actually less water/fluids may be part of the answer. Back to the doctor/GP - to find out what is really happening!
