AF and our diet

The 'latest health thing' seems to 'gut bacteria' I first saw it mentioned in relation to diets to lose weight a couple of years ago, now it seems to be everywhere.

I noticed this article (below) about some research linking gut bacteria - diet-inflammation -heart disease . This may be something to consider to help those of us with AF and other heart conditions....

[quote=The gut microbiome is under increasing scrutiny in medical research as it is known to affect many different aspects of our health, including our metabolism and auto-immune system. A lack of diversity or range of healthy bacteria in the gut has previously been linked to various health problems, including diabetes, obesity and inflammatory stomach and bowel diseases.

Now for the first time, researchers have found a link between gut bacteria and arterial stiffening which suggests that targeting the microbiome through diet, medication and probiotics may be a way to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The British Heart Foundation and MRC-funded research has been published in the European Heart Journal

The gut microbiome has been implicated in a variety of potential disease mechanisms including inflammation which can predispose people to heart disease. The hardening of the arteries that happens at different rates in different people as we age, is known to be a factor in cardiovascular risk.]

Interesting.

Thanks for posting.

As a vegetarian, I regularly eat most of the foods mentioned but started taking probiotic tablets on the advice of a friend. Although there hasn't been any noticible change in my heart rate (I've been in flutter for 3 weeks) I have noticed a reduction in my waistline. I think I must have been bloated with out realising it.

Thank you for posting these links doodle. Since being diagnosed with AF, I have had many instances of the strong link between gut upsets and heart gymnastics.

It makes sense that diet is paramount and the need to eat healthily. So many of our members refer to plant-based diets and the important role they play.

Thanks Doodle, I look forward to checking the links out. Re food so often it is not the generic type of food that causes the problems but the way it has been produced e.g. modern breads from modern wheats produced in a factory NO, sour dough bread from organic spelt or other ancient grain produced by a small local baker YES.
