You need to read the leaflet. Normally 2 x 5mg daily, but for over 80’s, those with impaired kidney function and underweight, the dose is halved but please check for yourself.
As far as I am aware there are only 2 doses - 2.5mg for elderly, frail & 5 mg x 2 daily. I take 5 mg x 2 daily but I do know there has been some discussion re dose:body weight but haven’t looked recently at concensus opinion.
Wondering why you ask? May help answer your query.
I have recently been diagnosed with Af at 58 years old . Have been lucky and never had to take medication before and was just interested to know the normal dosage of Apixaban . I also take Bisoprolol 2.5mg twice a day . Just coming to terms with this condition and the negative effect it is having on my life .
I think most of us have been there and certainly can relate to that. Welcome to the club you never wished to join!
I hope your u find the forum useful - best wishes, CD,
All though there will always be exceptions, the majority of folk have few problems with Apixaban. I have taken it now for well over a year......
I'm unusual (for many reasons but in this context it's) because I'm 41 years old, and am on the 2.5mg Apixban tablets, two a day. I'm only on them because I had an ablation recently. I'll be stopping anti-coagulation entirely soon. I'm not on the full 5mg tablets because they make me cough up blood!
I’ve been taking 2 x 5mg Apixaban for over 4 years, without obvious problems.
I am an 84 year old and take the full dose 2 x 5 a day but I am very active .. not frail .. and must admit to being a tiny bit over weight.
