Apixaban and supplements

While appreciating that every body is different can. Ask if others take supplements such as magnesium with their Apixaban without dying ! Thanks

Yes, I take co-enzyme q10, fish oil and magnesium, with rivaroxaban, flecainide, bisoprolol, no harm done yet! JanR

A couple of months ago I started taking 125mg magnesium citrate and have taken cod liver oil and vitamin C all my life. I'm taking Apixaban, Flecainide and Bisoprolol. So far, so good.

Stopped Apixaban and only take magnesium. I must get to the doctor re this ASAP. I had AF for 15 years none for 5 months following Magnesium Taurate. Magnesium is very hard on my stomach but with apixaban not possible.

Thank you. V helpful Why not possible to take supplement with Apixabsn. Do you know ? I do believe magnesium v helpful. May I ask what your situation was with PAF or Af before it stopped. Did doc agree to stopping Apixabsn ? Why did you stop ? I'm not keen on it. My onset was just before Xmas and nothing since. But so scary. I'm on Apixaban. I'm v active and don't like idea of bleeding etc but equally sensible re docs advice and risks !

I was in AF between 3 and 24 hours a week before a started Magnesium Taurate. I need to visit my GP to discuss and decide on action regarding me not using Apixaban!

Magnesium instead of apixaban eh Nigel? Do you believe it has anti-coagulant properties thereby protecting you from stroke?

To Elaine - no problems at all with apixaban - which is ensuring I don't succumb to the second biggest killer of mankind - and supplements. AF is progressive - doesn't mean there won't be occasional 'remissions' perhaps lasting longer than usual but, just as Jack Torrance said in The Shining, you're guaranteed to hear Mr AF announce......."I'm back!"

Unless you have ablation therapy of course.....

...or even if you do. My 15 months of af-free bliss ended just before Christmas. Flec helping so far, but another ablation may be in the future. He burned six areas the first time; does anyone know the max before there are no more safe places to hit? Sorry for introducing a new thread in the middle of yours about magnesium, which I have yet to try. Now that "it's baaack" better give it a try.

I said "ablation therapy" which may mean more than one procedure. There shouldn't be any 'maybe' about it. If you have the chance, the only chance, for something that resembles a cure, why wouldn't you take it?

Supplements are for the dreamers......

Will be learning my options tomorrow. Second ablation was mentioned in email discussion but doubt he had my specific chart in hand. Guess we'll see.

Well that's a relief Nigel but it just seems strange that you abandon your possibly life-saving anti-coagulant so that you could take magnesium. Entirely up to you of course but I don't understand it.

Bit concerned by this thread, is there now a problem taking Apixaban and magnesium, I take both and wasn't aware of any significant issues?

Don't be concerned Catherine. Nigel has stomach problems which he believes are caused by apixaban and because these are exacerbated when he takes magnesium - he's stopped taking the apixaban. That's the issue that is unexplained and somewhat concerning.

Most of us have no problems with apixaban or magnesium but if we did, we would probably drop the magnesium first, wouldn't we?

Thanks for clarifying. I have no problems at all taking both but there would be no contest at all which I would drop first if I did
