Should I have stopped digoxin?

Hi all, I have permanent af and take low dose of flecainide and dabigatran. 3 months ago I was put on digoxin for a fast heart rate but I think this has caused me to have a very bad stomach, nausea, no appetite and very weepy so on Friday I decided to stop taking digoxin. Felt ok on Saturday but today my af is a lot stronger. Should I have stopped digoxin?

Morning Redders, Digoxin made me feel as though I was losing my mind and low in spirits. I can understand why you've stopped taking it, but please let your hospital know tomorrow what you have done and why.

After the drug has cleared your system at least you'll find out if it was that which was causing your problems.

Wishing you well.

Jean

Only your doctor’s can advise on medication Redders. I was on Digoxin for a short period a long while ago and I believe it is not normally prescribed for “active” people but you should discuss stopping medication with the experts......best wishes

I too was on Digoxin 4 years ago for six months, it played havoc with my memory and I felt unwell on it, I was also on Bisoprolol. I came off it for the above reasons but I was prescribed another drug in it's place Diltiazem. So you really should discuss with your medics as soon as possible. Best wishes.

Hi Redders so sorry to hear what you are going through! just wanted to say hi and wish you well. So pleased to hear you are getting treatment, probably best to let doctors know you have stopped taking them sooner rather than later.

Do not think you should have stopped Taking Digoxin it slows your heart rate discuss this with your doctor. Have been taking Digoxin for 8 years now may have had the bad stomach for intervals but no not get the rapid heart rate that I did have, this has helped somewhat by Digoxin then also the beta blocker I take.

I’m still waiting to hear back from the arrhythmia nurse as to what she thinks I should take. I’ve tried digoxin twice in the last 18 months and each time I’ve lost so much weight. Not ideal really.

Dear Redders Thank you for your reply I am sure your arrhythmia nurse would give you best advice. A drug like Digoxin your doctor or arrhythmia nurse would always give you the best advice in your circumstances. Losing weight could indicate other issues that should be looked at.
