Flecainide??

Aetenolol wasn’t working so the doctor gave me flecainide as PIP. If Afib comes back then take it daily. Anyone have experience with this medication? Any long term side effects? Doctor said there is none

well, apart from that, my experience of Flecainide has been fine. Maybe a sense of slight constipation, but that can be caused by Diltiazem as well! If you take it as a PiP, be sure not to exceed the prescribed dose in any 24 hour period. I'm not medically trained, but as I understand it, if you take it on a daily basis, you should also take a betablocker or a calcium channel blocker so worth checking with your EP should it become necessary. This is not the case when taken as a PiP...hope this helps.....

I am now Fleck 50mg three times a day I was on 50 twice a day but had a break thru, so now it's daily, feel so tired very anxious too. Does Fleck cause muscle spasms? I get a slight twitch in my face and around my lips also legs feel jumpy. Sincerely Chayah

Not aware of any muscle spasms but sometimes get a mild tingling sensation around my lips...are you taking statins or anything for heartburn/acid reflex?

If it continues, best to discuss with your doctor.......

I have been given Flecanide as PIP but haven't taken it as episodes have self terminated but if I do start I will go to a and E to be monitored the first time. That's the guidance although lots of doctors don't ask people to do that- lack of resources. One EP that spoke to our meeting said he likes people to have a beta blocker even when it is just taken as PIP- this is an area of disagreement as most doctors say what Flapjack has posted- i e just when taken regularly. There is a small risk that Flecanide causes 1 to 1 conduction from atria to ventricles- hence the beta blocker/channel blocker and I think that EP was basing his judgement on his patients' experience.. I'm not a doctor so all this needs to be checked with your doctor.

I took it first as a PIP and then a daily dose for about 4 years all told. I didn’t suffer any noticeable side effects and it worked for a while but I got break through eventually. Take on an empty stomach - it can make you very nauseous if you have food in your stomach so leave for at least an hour after food if you take it.

It is known to have serious side effects in a minority and I was one of the minority in that it contributed to an exacerbation of an unknown, underlying condition. You will need to have kidney & liver function tests about every 6 months if taken daily.

I was with a friend recently in A&E in AF and the consultant wouldn’t administer without echo or MRI. I was told that the first dose does need to be under medical supervision - a few people can have an adverse reaction.

There ARE long term side effects - for a minority - and it can be a very effective drug In AF treatment so I would do your own research before you decide whether or not the benefits outweigh the risks.

My doctor agrees with your doctor. 4 years on no problems.

I have had next to no problems and it was given instead of a beta blocker so just taking flec regularly and apixaban. Others would disagree but I have what would appear to vagal af and I understand beta blockers are not always a good choice.

I think channel blockers can be OK- need to check with doctor

I am the same as the last reply. Flecainide plus Warfarin every day for about 10 years and only. 2 episodes clear for 18months .i am sure my AF is Vagal induced so watch what I eat and no large meals especially in the evenings.
