A pharmacist has told me that I can use volterol gel he suggested the 12 hr one which you put on am and again pm and said it would be ok to use even though I was taking apixaban for my pain in neck and shoulder just wondering if anyone else has tried this my pain is nerve pain and am desperate for some pain relief as I have had bad side effect from gabapentin and pregabalin and can only take 10 mg amitriptyline because of the afib am seeing my dr Friday but I’ve always thought pharmacist often know more about drug interactions

Hi hope you’re pain gets better soon, I was told not to use voltarol gel by doctor and pharmacist. I was told I could use Biofreeze gel, it smells a bit like Vick, but has no ibrofen in it , I would say it easies the pain, you can by it from Boots the chemist for £9.99. Hope you find something to ease your pain. 😖

Always conflicting info here I'm afraid. My doctor told me that sparing use of these gels was OK as little of the ingredients get into your blood stream so I tend to agree with your pharmacist.

Hi I have neck and shoulder pain and joint pain and AF of course and on a noac. I take solpadol as a pain tablet and my GP also gives me Oruvail gel (it has 2.5% of Ketoprofen in it) this is on my monthly repeat prescription. It is quite effective, maybe not quite as effective as voltarol. I have recently be seeing a osteopath for my neck and shoulder pain and it has eased it a great deal. One of the problem with this kind of pain is that you tend to tense up badly and this makes things worse.

My neck feels a lot better and less shoulder pain, she has also given me exercises for my neck and shoulders, it has been well worth the visits. I had tried physios and cyropractor in the past but that did not help.

For my arthritis I take Emmu Oil capsules, rich in omega 3.6.9. I have been on these for over 15 years and swear by them. They stop the stiffness in my joints, before in the mornings I could not move my hands they were so stiff, had to put them in hot water to get them going, knee joints were a problem too. I have tried the fish oil omega supplements but they did nothing for me. I have experimented with not taking the Emmu Oil capsules and returned to the old problems. Started again and all is fine. Many of my friends now take these and they swear by them.

I’m assuming you are on an anticoagulant and my clinic said omega is an anticoagulant so has it not effected how your anticoagulant I’m on apixaban

There has been a post recently on fish oil and anticoagulants and opinions seem to differ. I know that emmu oil does not interfere with Warfarin and my GP said it was okay with Rivaroxaban which I take, it seems to be a grey area at the moment. I think the quantity that you take has some bearing as well.

My anti coagulation nurse said that short term use over a small area should be ok. It was for my knees. My gp also said it would be ok short term. I never had any problems 😊 hope you feel better soon😊

Just came from my orthopedist. I asked about using Volterol gel with my apixaban for knee issues. He said it was ok. Said topical use caused very low nsaid blood level rise. The most positive study I've seen states that standard label, gel treatment raises blood nsaid levels only 6% of comparable oral treatments. I found that reassuring. Am using it, per label instructions, on my knees.
