Heart palpitations

I had aortic valve replacement surgery and 1 bypass on December 29, 2011. I am 61 yr old female. It was very unexpected since I had no prior symptoms and a murmur was the only indication on a routine dr exam. I am an anxious person but handled the surgery & recovery quite well. About 9 mths ago I started walking & cutting calories to lose weight . I started mag07 at night around August at the suggestion of a friend to cleanse my body. It’s a lot of magnesium! I have recently started have palpitations 😮. My daughter is a cardiac nurse and told me to quit taking. I have and palpitations have decreased. I was wondering if any of you would know how long it takes to get the mag out of my system. I have a dr appt Monday with cardiologist and I hope by then they’re gone. Can anyone advise me? I’ve lost 22 lbs which is great too but I did it the right way and hope my heart valve is ok

You did not say exactly what you are taking and in what amount.

The human body contains around 25g of Magnesium. The elimination of Mg is mainly controlled by the kidneys, it is excreted in urine when there is a surplus. If levels are too low, it can be pulled from bone, muscles, and other organs. Magnesium is often taken as a laxative. So, unless you have kidney problems, my guess is that the body will compensate in a matter of hours.

If a cardiac nurse said to quit the supplement and it helped you, I would treat their advice seriously.

With any supplement, it is always wise to begin with small amounts. We all react differently. You are wise to check with a specialist.
