The most important thing is whether he is on anti-coagulants and if so which one- Warfarin has many food interactions, NOACS just a few.

From a heart health POV processed foods are very bad - fruit and veg are very good.

Losing weight if overweight, keeping BP in normal range.

Hi Donber, as RosyG says, you need to be more careful if he is taking warfarin, but even then, the INR nurse should be able to arrive at a dose that suits your diet, provided you consume similar amounts on a regular basis. Pigging out on brocolli every other month would not be a good idea. As far as I can recall, the only thing to be wary of if taking a DOAC (NOAC) is grapefruit juice. I don't think betablockers or calcium channel blockers or any of the rhythm drugs ie Flecainide have any major issues but check the leaflet and ask your pharmacist just to be sure.

Medication aside, I tend to limit my Caffiene to 2 or 3 cups of tea a day (with milk) and don't touch coffee. I rarely touch alcohol either but if I do I make sure I've not had too much tea and had plenty of alternative fluids.

I avoid anything with artificial additives, especially maltodextrin and artificial sweeteners. Other things are stress, overeating, alcohol, caffeine, cake (sob) and because I've always had AF after eating them blueberries.

I read labels but had never heard of maltodextrin before and had to Google it.

It's added to quite a few vitamin pills. If I buy any I always have to check as I know it will set my AF off, the same as artificial sweeteners do.

Your list is pretty close to what I try psto avoid-especially artificial sweeteners- which cutting out about 3 yrs ago has helped me with so many other problems I didn't connnect with artificial sweeteners. Especially GI problems- bloating IBS sx etc. Take care. irina1975
