Not always easy to know the answer to this Lindyloo. One of the problems is that the side effect of some of the medication prescribed for AF are similar to the symptoms, so it can be difficult to know what might be the causing your breathlessness. Bisoprolol is an effective drug, but for some people it can also cause breathlessness, particularly if you are taking a high dose.

I'm afraid it's a bit of trial and error to get the type of medication and dosage right, but any changes must be discussed and agreed with your doctor.

Is he in anyway asthmatic ? If so bisoprolol should not be prescribed and you probably need to change to nebivolol or something similar, or to a calcium channel blocker.

Do discuss with your doctor. Flapjack has mentioned bisoprolol- digoxin is usually given if one is quite sedentary so may be slowing him down too much- but only make changes with doctor s advice
