Kardia and palpitations

My husband had palpitations and I used my Kardia to get a reading, the results were possible Afib. He has not been diagnosed with Afib. The palpitations lasted about 20 minutes an went away. Should I have him see a Cardiologist?

As you know Slattery, we are not medically trained, so flying a bit of a kite here!! Palputations and ectopics are quite common and do not necessarily mean he has a problem however, I would have thought your Kardia was more likely to report unclassified. Do you know if the pulse remained regular, is it something he has experienced before and how long did the palputations last for? Is it possible to have an ECG at your surgery, it may just be a one off incident. It will be interesting to hear what others suggest but I would have thought your GP should be your first point of contact.....

The heart was 121, the palpitations lasted for about 20 minutes, this has happened twice over the past 4 months.

Then he should see his GP first. You could ask him to refer your husband but there is probably a way to go before going down the EP route.

If it were me I would try to see a cardiologist asap; at the very least your GP. I'm assuming you are in England and I don't know how your scheduling works or the 'chain of command'. Here in the states I would go straight for an Electrophysiologist but any medical caregivers could do proper testing and guide you from there. The important thing is don't put off proper professional evaluation and guidance re care.

I have just checked my Kardia recordings for when I have definitely been in AF and it does say 'possible atrial fibrillation" so I think he should see his GP and ask for a 24hr or longer recording. Your GP will be able to see it is AF from the recording as 20 minutes is quite long enough to establish what is going on. Well done fr getting the recording- let us know how you get on

Is there a gap in this narrative? You asked a similar question a month ago. Did your husband go to his GP then?

If not, I imagine he can decide for himself what he wants to do. You could print off some information for him, but it is his decision whether or not he wants to act on it. He could join this board and speak for himself.

When I try to give my wife advice, she buries her head deeper in the sand. In the matter of husbands and wives, is it a case of fools rush in where angels fear to tread......🙂

Same thing happened to my husband - I captured an unusual Arrythmia on my Kardia - he went to the cardiologist just in time as he was diagnosed with Sick Sinus Syndrone and 6 weeks later had a pacemaker inserted.

If has had one eisode it is likely he may have had or may have more so a formal investigations seems to be indicatesd - I would encourage him to see his GP as Rosy & Flapjack suggest.

I took the Kardia recording to the Cardiologist today and my husband does have Afib. He told me this recording save him a lot of time in finding out what the problem was. He was very pleased to have this information.
