Apixaban and vit D

I'm taking 5mg Apixaban twice daily and was wondering if I can also take a vitamin D supplement during the winter months as I get a bit down. If I remember rightly, it was a no no with warfarin

I do take vit d with rivaroxaban. Also magnesium and menopace.

I always google to check if there are interactions.

I take Apixaban and 1000iu’s vit D without problems. The same question appeared quite recently and there were several answers I believe - search in the top right box.

The usual advice - check with your pharmacist/GP before adding supplements to your drugs.

This is something you need to discuss with your pharmacist /. They are the experts.

My pharmacist suggested I take vitamin d but I have had a blood test and waiting results he knows I am in warfarin. I thought it was vit k that was the problem.

I take it as a supplement & take Apixaban just watch the IU amount and stay within guidelines.

As Bob says discuss with pharmacist anything not prescribed to ensure doesn't react with any of your medications

As an after thought are people aware can have too much of certain vitamins and supplements . They can cause other problems

I take vitamin D with Apixaban both prescribed by doctor so I assume that there is no interaction. Easy to check with a pharmacist.

Hya .... I’m on warfarin and take a D tablet daily - prescribed by my GP ..... will be on this indefinitely apparently, so looks like it’s ok.

Hi Polly,

Most people do not get enough vit D in their diet. There are no contraindications to Vit D and Apixaban or any of the newer anti coagulants presently on the market in Canada.

Vit D is FAT soluble and is well absorbed with a meal preferably a fatty meal .

I prefer to use the D drops as oppose to the pill for quick absorption.

It is an essential vitamin to supplement.

Kay.
