Bisopralol

How long does this take to work? I've started it last week and I think it should be twice a day because it seems to wear off. I started at 75 mgs and it's too small to cut in half

Hi Pilgrim - I hope you mean 7.5mgs of Bisoprolol - Which still seems a high dose to start with. I started on 1.5mg and gradually titrated up to 10 msg but I couldn’t tolerate it very well.

What are you expecting to happen re your question - how long does this take to work?

Biso is a Beta Blocker which is a heart rate control drug and is also useful for moderating BP. For what reason were you prescribed Bisoprolol?

I am assuming you have AF is that persistent or paroxysmal?

Best wishes CD

Yes sorry 7.5 mgs

And to slow my heart rate in paroxysmal AF and settle the ectopics

I am surprised you were started on such a high dose?

I gather it hasn’t slowed your HR and if it hasn’t had an effect yet then I would go back to your doctor as soon as possible. Bisoprolol is a drug that requires titrating up and down - so not a good idea to suddenly stop taking.

Have you tried slow breathing techniques for the ectopics? See Dr Sanjay Gupta’s video. Many people find that really helps as does a regular practice of Mindfulness.

In my experience bisoprolol takes about 2 hours to 'kick in'. I don't know whether it would be appropriate for you to you to split your dose in two and to take twice a day; only your GP or a pharmacist could tell you that.

However, tiny as the tablets are it *is* possible to split them with a pill-splitter that can be (quite cheaply) obtained from a pharmacy. I no longer take bisoprolol but at one stage (with GP approval) I did take a split dose which is how I know a pill-splitter works fine on them.

Not what you're looking for?
