That is really a very small change in INR and not one that my nurse would bat an eyelid at. I think the main risk in an elderly warfarin user is the possibility of a fall resulting in a bleed but that would happen at a lower INR as well. Best of luck in getting this stabilised, but please don't worry too much!
As Irene says, it is easy to worry (and worry too much) about INR, particularly if it's never where one would like it to be. There's not much wrong with 3.1.
It can be intrusively unsettling and take over one's life if it's felt there's a need to think about what's on one's fork.
