I went to A and E a few weeks back with what I thought was afib but was told I was in a-flutter which apparently, is slightly different...anyway the EP I was referred to had a Kardia gadget on his desk and he told me that 'to get a better reading' I should put one half of the gadget onto the skin of my left knee whilst holding the other half with my fingers in the usual way (not easy!) he said it was a better way of assessing what was going on. Has anyone else been told this? I've also read that Apple intend to put a feature for detecting afib into their watch, seems to me that wearing something 24/7 might give a better idea of what's going on?

Kardia query....
Hi ! I couldn't resist trying this and got a trace quite unlike my normal one .....so much so that App asked whether this was my trace!? I think that BobD had mentioned this method in the past... Bob where are you ?
Sandra
Christmas shopping actually! This was what I was told years ago when they first came out. The Apple watch is new so a bit of an unknown but I am sure that I heard something good about the new facility when I was in London recently for AF week.
I have heard of this but never tried, but I have done a recording from my chest and that was different too. Trying to work out the knee method 🤔 🙃
Yes, I’ve tried left knee and right hand traces and they look totally different. You can also do chest and hand and I remember reading somewhere that the three traces represent different leads on a full ECG. Hope my memory of that is accurate.
Interesting that your EP thought the knee reading was better as it gave a very clear reading when I was in AFlutter.
Look here under the paragraph Taking Readings and it explains about the various reading positions:

Thanks for this link Finvola
Thanks for the link Finvola, very interesting, I hadn't seen that. I'll have to keep practicing, I had trouble balancing phone to be near enough plus holding device, so I never got a clear reading, I'm sure there must be an easy way, I'm sure someone will know, but if it comes to pass, I still think the idea of wearing the Apple watch is a much better idea!
I havent been very imoressed with my kardia but will try this and get back to you
I too had heard of it, but that link from Finvola is nice. I don't know why I hadn't seen that before, but thank you.
I've never actually tried using the alternative connections, and I would maybe suggest that this might be easier with the Kardia slipped out of it's holder on the back of the 'phone, but then there is the problem of keeping the phone within 300mm for the ultrasound communication to work reliably.
I must have a play with it!
Kardia And Apple have teamed together....you will need an watch with the app on it and then buy the additional watch band that has the kardi gizmo built it....I just looked and the band alone in $199 US ....so I will just keep using the Kardia I have.
Although the boss just gave us all Apple watches for Christmas....gotta love the boss
