Beta blockers

I was recently in Hosp with Heart failure & Pulmonary embolisim, I am on Bisoprolol, Ribaroxaban, Furosemide & others to protect my gut. When i go to bed i find i hear & feel my heart pounding away, would it be beneficial & safe for me to take my Bisoprolol at night instead of morning. Also because there is diabetes on my Mum's side i regularly tested my blood with my husbands glucose meter & reading was always between 2-4, now when i take it the GP would tell me i am border line diabetic, could it be the medication i am taking. I do not want to see my GP at present as i know he would put me on more tablets, is there anything i can do myself at home to get me away from the borderline reading. I eat healthily & always have. Any suggestions please. Thank you

I can't comment on your question about a possible link between the medication you take and your raised glucose level. However, regarding bisoprolol (which I no longer take) I switched to taking it at night without any problems but it would probably be advisable to do this in hourly steps over a period of time especially if the dose is a high one. The best person to ask questions like this is the pharmacist who dispenses the medications you take; they are the experts.

You may be less aware of your heart if you lie on your right side to sleep. Lying on my left side certainly makes me more aware, whether I am in NSR or not.

There is lots of advice online about healthy eating and pre-diabetes eg:

I take half my Bisoprolol in the morning and half at night. I was constantly tired throughout the day so my cardiologist told me to split it.

I'm afraid that I could not comment on any link between diabetics and Bisoprolol as I'm not in that position. Your doctor would be the best person to discuss this with and the Bisoprolol query also.

I wish you well and hope all tests for diabetes come back good for you!

Sharon
