Discouraged

I had my third ablation in June of this year and ended up with pace maker AND pulmonary stenosis diagnosis likely from prior ablation. If that’s not enough I still have tachycardia episodes. Have any of you been on rythmal (norpace) or tikysin. Right now I take metropolol which makes me sick if I take more than 25mg and 25 doesn’t seem to be helping anymore. I fear an avnode ablation is down the road for me. I’m scared and distressed.

I take propafenone which is an anti-arrythmic. I THINK it is also called Rythmol. I am given this because I have VTAC history. A ICD/Pacemaker was put inside me. I do seem to be adjusted to the med but it does not fully stop the arrythmias, I still have incidents nearly every day, BUT most likely not as severe without it. Incidents meaning HR fluctuations can from 30's to lower 100's and in between. At least HR is no ultra fast like in a VTAC.

Side affects not bad from this drug other than excuse me but smelly poop, at times a bit lethargic-but that could also be to my condition. I am on my 3rd month with this med. Still trying to get a solid hold of acceptance on my condition. Just also started meditation to help me accept.

I had graduated over a few years from paroxysmal to permanent afib. Cardioversion didn't work, and neither did four different antiarrhythmic drugs, including Flecainide & Rythmol, which both sent me to the emergency room. Some people apparently have a bad reaction to some of these drugs. Then, my great (new) EP decided on Tikosyn rather than ablation.

I've been on Tikosyn (dofetilide) for almost 2 years. It must be initiated during a three day stay at a qualified hospital . A couple of hours after the second dose my heart locked into sinus rhythm and has basically stayed there, with just a few brief lapses (maybe once in two months), which I attribute to eating foods with MSG or aspartame. It has given me my life back. I am able to do all normal activities, including 5 mile walks, bike riding, etc. I am 68 and live in U.S.

I also take multiple supplements, including resveratrol, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium chloride (No-Salt brand of salt substitute), nicotinamide riboside, and many, many others.

Thanks. The tikosyn scares me but we will see.
