.....the conclusion of the video with reference to the virgin olive oil being beneficial to heart health concurs with a programme I saw on BBC 'Trust me I'm a Doctor' with Michael Mosely.

[''Conclusions

In this experiment, it seems that taking 20ml of raw olive oil – either extra virgin or ‘normal’ – can have a positive effect on our hearts.'']

Many thanks, Steve - he looks like a new man!!

The words 'anti inflammatory' cropping up yet again in heart health - I wonder if this info is too late for us . . . or can we turn things around?

Hi Finvola :-) I have read that while we can't change that which has already happened, our diet can prevent the progression of certain conditions.

I am hoping that my lifestyle change will slow the progression of my AF from PAF to persistent.

Me too, doodle. I spent dinner time discussing with my husband how we could each consume 4 tablespoons of virgin olive oil! We drizzle it over green vegs but not in those amounts!

....Finvola :-) I love dunking warm home made bread in a little bowl of olive oil with a dash of balsamic vinegar . Waitrose do a lovely oil called Belazu Early Harvest extra virgin and Belazu do a balsamic vinegar too but not 4 tablespoons of oil, just 2 or I would put too much weight on.

Michael Mosley's research said 20ml olive oil a day (about 2 dessert spoons full) .

The vinegar is rich in antioxidants which are good for the heart too.

Yum - love ciabatta dipped in balsamic - Pukara estates do lovely ones, my favourites being Guava or Pomegranate.

Two dessertspoonfuls of olive oil sound manageable - and you're right, there are the calories to consider too.

Finvola :-) I will have to give Pukara estates a try...

what was up with him?

No idea whether anything was 'up with him'. He was away on holiday in Cuba for a while earlier in the summer and then just seemed to take some time out from posting his helpful videos on YouTube. I don't think he posted any explanation. The pressures of working in an NHS hospital are sufficient explanation in themselves I'd have thought.

I've been taking olive oil for a while now - however as I'm also on a low carb diet (no delicious ciabatta boohoo) I make a daily salad including grated carrot which absorbs the oil nicely, with a little fresh lemon juice for extra flavour and vit c.
